Democrats Openly Worrying About Obama’s Reelection

The Democrats are now agonizing over President Obama’s chances of getting reelected. It’s not just his election they’re worried about, either, they’re afraid he’s going to pull them all down. They have good reason to worry. It’s so bad the New York Times has a big story about it today.

Elected officials and party leaders at all levels said their worries have intensified as the economy has displayed new signs of weakness. They said the likelihood of a highly competitive 2012 race is increasing as the Republican field, once dismissed by many Democrats as too inexperienced and conservative to pose a serious threat, has started narrowing to two leading candidates, Mitt Romney and Rick Perry, who have executive experience and messages built around job creation.

And in a campaign cycle in which Democrats had entertained hopes of reversing losses from last year’s midterm elections, some in the party fear that Mr. Obama’s troubles could reverberate down the ballot into Congressional, state and local races.

“In my district, the enthusiasm for him has mostly evaporated,” said Representative Peter A. DeFazio, Democrat of Oregon. “There is tremendous discontent with his direction.” ….

The article goes on to note that the big campaign jobs speech he delivered before a joint session of Congress gave some of them hope that he can turn things around. But Charles Krauthammer reminds us that he’s going to have a tough sell with the voters he needs the most – independents.

“[B]arack Obama is no Harry Truman,” Krauthammer said. It’s not that complicated. Obama is over his head. He is a great orator. He came out of nowhere. He dazzled America. He [has] never run anything. He never actually enacted anything even in the legislature. He hadn’t run a state. He hadn’t run a city. He hadn’t run a business. He is running the biggest enterprise in the world and he has not succeeded. And that is why all of these independents, all of those who believed in a soaring rhetoric, including probably a couple who swooned in the aisles as he spoke in 2008, are now waking up and realizing he is a mortal who is in over his head.” ….

They’re saying he’s going to to take a page out of Harry Truman’s playbook and run against the “do nothing Congress,” but he had a Congress for two years that was controlled by his party and did a lot of unpopular things. They passed Obamacare, FrankenDodd and Porkulus and he signed them all into law. They lost the House because people wanted them to stop doing what they were doing. The only thing they didn’t do was pass a budget. I guess he’s gambling that if he delivers enough angry speeches people will forget.

His failed policies will be his demise, including his actions toward Israel. Don’t mess with Israel. It was a stupid, stupid move.
