Over the weekend I saw an interview with former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm. She was promoting some book about how to fix the economy. All I recall was being appalled that the poster child for economic failure was being given air time for her job-creating ideas. No, she didn’t mention how the unions and decades of progressive policies destroyed her state. Of course not, she was too busy lauding the job-creation benefits of ”public-private” partnerships. (Code words for taxpayer dollars being sunk into failing “green” companies.)
I was reminded of the interview when I read this Wall Street Journal op-ed by William McGurn.
Some politicians give us failure. Some politicians give us failure mixed with spectacle. Once in a generation, a politician gives us failure and misunderstanding so colossal that his or her bad example rises to the level of public service.
To this elite few belongs Jennifer Granholm.
In the Michigan she governed for eight long years, the roll call of despair is not in dispute. On her watch, the state’s ranking in per capita GDP plummeted to 41st place from 24th, Detroit’s population shriveled to its lowest level since 1910, and Michigan earned the dubious distinction of being the only state to suffer a net out-migration this past decade.
These refugees now include Ms. Granholm herself. Apparently her “Cool Cities” initiative—one of her many efforts that was supposed to halt Michigan’s brain drain—wasn’t cool enough. She and her husband have moved to Berkeley, where they are both teaching.
With this kind of record, most politicos might take refuge in prudence. Not Ms. Granholm. Today she is running around the nation selling a book and a message. The book is called “A Governor’s Story: The Fight for Jobs and America’s Economic Future.” Her message—that Granholm’s Michigan shows the way forward—has been taken seriously in all the places you might expect: the New York Times and Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.” (Read More)
I didn’t see her on the “Daily Show,” I know that. I guess it doesn’t matter where I saw her, the fact that such a failed governor is given air time by the media to sell her economic ideas is disturbing.
Update: The Sundries Shack linked – thanks!

The Left knows no shame. Jennifer Granholm was the worst governor in Michigan history. No one else is even close.

I saw this interview too! I think it was on CNN. My guess is that the interviewer was Fareed Zakaria.
Wasn’t she blaming her state’s decline on free trade? This chick is dumber than a rock but it’s clear the Dems are priming her as some sort of anti-Palin. My guess is she runs for president in 2016.
BTW, have you noticed that the Dems have a costume for all their “intelligent” thinkers? Dark, thick rimmed glasses – Granholm, Maddow, Chris Hayes, Olbermann (although he switched to thin frames). Once you see those dark rims, you can bet you’re about to hear praise for taxin’ and spendin’!

Hurricane Jenny. “And in five years you’re gonna be blown away” Yeah, right Jenny, blown away indeed, right over the state line! http://www.bing.com/search?q=Jennifer+Granholm+you%27ll+be+blown+away%2C+youtube&go=&qs=n&sk=&form=QBLH
Michigan’s problems were as any other state (maybe a bit better) when she was ushered in but via her extremist progressive policies like doubling down in tough times by signing into law Michigan’s biggest income tax hike in history she depressed us even more. But that wasn’t enough. Unfair business taxation and regulation, phony tax credits and jobs programs, running huge deficits but she persevered, unwavering from statist / central planning. Increasing her husband’s (Dan Mulhern) personal staff to five or more at an estimated (refused to disclose) record expenditure for a “first man” in Michigan, and we’re broke!
These progressive, control freak, elitist, psychos will stop at nothing given free reign. Obvious failures are never their fault it’s only the people that won’t support them.
If you remember back in 2008 Presidential Campaign, she was ignored and shunned by Team Obama when he was campaigning in Michigan. Even they knew she was nothing to point to as a stellar progressive success.
After her destructive reign, do you think she would have the courage to even stay in the state she ran into the ground? No, she bolts to San Fran to be with her soul mates in utopia. Stay there Jenny, please or go back to Canada where you came from.

Oh, yeah and the meaningless “Cool Cities” program Mr. McGurn mentions. These little signs at the city limit of certain cities made you “Cool” and cost us a bundle to install and now remove. I guess she thought the signs would make it all better. Typical.
