In case you missed it, last night Laura Ingraham filled in for Bill O’Reilly and spoke with Ann Coulter about the possibility of Sarah Palin running for president. Coulter said what many of us are thinking, that when it comes to a White House bid Palin should “fish or cut bait.” She also addressed the lack of criticism of Palin and her fans, “no conservatives will criticize Palin because they don’t want to deal with the hate mail.”
The segment inspired Erick Erickson to write a fairly long post, saying “Enough.”
For the longest time I wanted Sarah Palin to run.
At some point, I decided Sarah Palin could not defeat Barack Obama, but I’d rather go down fighting on Team Sarah than side with any of the guys who will just take us down the “big government conservative” path of creeping socialism.
Finally, I decided Sarah Palin was not going to run and I moved on. Ultimately, 2012 really is about beating Barack Obama, not what Sarah Palin will or will not do.
Unfortunately, as I found out and as others are starting to find out, moving on from Sarah Palin is like leaving Scientology.
Read the whole thing. I like Sarah Palin, but she’s been wearing on me. This blog isn’t quite big enough to draw much widespread derision, but I’ve still been careful about what I say so as to avoid hate mail coming in from our own side. I also agree with Ingraham’s assessment that Palin hasn’t really done the heavy lifting required of a serious candidate.
Watch the clip – what do you think?

Update: Linked by Man Are We Screwed, The Pirate’s Cove and The Other McCain – thanks!
Update: Poh Diaries linked and walked the tight rope – thanks! (And what does it tell you when someone has to walk the tight rope about the candidate and her supporters?) While you’re at it, in case you don’t read this blog regularly and missed the home page, no, we are not elites. Those of you who say we are need to do a little homework.

Supporting candidates based upon the criterion that “she drives the LEFT absolutely frikken nuts” is a poor reason. There are a lot of problems that need to be fixed in our country, and supporting people simply because they antagonize a portion of the populace you need to work with to get things done isn’t good for the country.

I agree, but if you read the rest of the comment you’re responding to, you’ll see he was not encouraging a run now.

F the pundits. Let Erick (with a k?) run for office. Coulter too. I see way too much pissing and moaning from those types. They’re just the right’s version of the left’s journolisters–they want all the influence and power without being elected to anything.
Who the hell are they to say anything? Why should I care what either of them say? “Heavy lifting”? W.T.F.? from some TV talking head? What has *she* done that she gets say crap like that?
Palin is going to do whatever she is going to do in her own good time.
Quit trying to rush everything. The election is over a year away.

Interesting … in a sad sorta way.
I’ve always been fascinated by the vitriol and pure hatred spewed towards Ron Paul supporters. Now that Sarah Palin fans are under attack too, it’s beginning to make sense to me.
The “Conservatives Who Matter” hate their fellow Americans more than they do the Ruling Class, and love the state more than they do liberty. They aren’t in a battle of ideas or even necessarily against the Democrats. They’re at war with their stupid redneck neighbor and the flunky in the cubicle next to them!
Sad. Very, very sad.
Hot debate. What do you think?

Sarah Palin hasn’t done the heavy lifting required of a serious candidate?
Are you f***ing kidding me?
She has done more heavy lifting in the last three years than all the other pretend candidates combined.
Who was it that said Obamacare and put a knife in the heart of that piece of crap legislation? (and took all the heat for it?)
Who was it that went to the first Tea Party Convention and gave a speech on Conservatism, bringing all the national TV audience and some legitimacy to it when all the others were bitching about the organizer “making money”?
Who was it that attacked Obama from 2008, during the election, while the pussy Republicans said …. “oh, we can’t go there, that’s mean and nasty talking about Bill Ayers, Rev. Wright, etc.” and gave us Obama for four years?
Who was it that gave the people that make up the Tea Party the courage and someone to emulate in order to go to those town halls and march and say “No, we won’t sit down and shut up” while the Republican Party and its butt kissing pundits all laughed and smeared the Tea Party?
I can go on, but why bother? If you can’t figure this out because your brain can’t hold a memory longer than two weeks, who cares about you anyway?
Oh, and I get the meaning of “heavy lifting” now as it pertains to Ingraham and you….. you mean the heavy lifting of lobby money from the lobbyist wallets. Or the lifting in Ingraham’s case of money from people who buy her books or pay for her speaking engagements.
Okay… now I understand. Sarah isn’t being bought now for favours later like all the other candidates. She is not playing ball with the rules of the game as established by the establishment. How terrible she isn’t doing what you want her to do.
P.S. I’ll clue you in to why her supporters are so tough on anyone who says even something slightly negative about her…. because the Republican pussies and right wing pundits abandoned her when she was most heavily under attack in 2008 and 2009. So we have decided to “have her back” so to speak so that it never happens again. EVER.

Thank you for making my point for me. Has she participated in a debate? What has she done except whine about the “Lame Stream Media” and screwing up Republican candidates campaign appearances? Oh, besides promoting herself? I don’t want to fight with people on our own side, and I was one of the first people to defend Palin. I still do when the attacks are unwarranted. But we all know the media sucks, good for her for calling them out. But really, how can she win when the majority in her own party wouldn’t vote for her? Look at the comments above. There’s some good advice up there. Politics isn’t just about pleasing the base of support, it’s about winning elections. Sorry, I’m just a mom in Central New York. I didn’t make the rules. But I’ve followed (followed, not led) things long enough to see the writing on the wall. Grow up.

And as to your question about who inspired the tea party – Rick Santelli. Google it! I was blogging about it and going to tea parties before Sarah picked up on it.

Fish or cut bait isn’t a good analogy for what’s going on here, imho. Every day that goes by her would-be republican opponents are grinding each other into dust. Pawlenty’s already gone, Bachmann is sinking fast, and who knows how the Perry vs. Romney thing is going to go.
I don’t have any more info about whether she’s running or not but maybe the reality is that she knows exactly what she’s doing and will announce if and when it suits her.
