President Obama claims that Americans are better off today than they were four years ago. I won’t torture you with the video, you can watch it at NRO. He even said it with a straight face. That must have been difficult.
“Are you kidding me?!” Boehner said loudly in response to a reporter’s question on the comment. “Why don’t you go ask the 14 million Americans who are out of work whether they’re better off today than they were four years ago?”
He also mentioned the 15 bipartisan bills that passed in the House and are now sitting on Harry Reid’s shelf in the Senate. Mitch McConnell isn’t too happy about that, either.
“Unlike the president and the Democrats who run the Senate, House Republicans are designing legislation to pass, rather than fail,” McConnell said. “They want to make a difference rather than a point. And the only thing keeping these bills from becoming law is the fact that Democrats in the Senate won’t take them up.”
The local ABC News affiliate played a short clip of McConnell’s remarks, but that quote was mysteriously left out.
Update: Nice Deb has video of Boehner’s response.
Update 2: Sort of related: While out on the stump, President Obama said God backs his jobs plan. Ironically, Jay Carney followed up with “The Lord helps those who help themselves.” Not only did he say the quote comes from the Bible, he apparently doesn’t understand the quote, because it doesn’t mean “help themselves to other people’s money.”
