EPA Gives Syracuse $25K Environmental Justice Grant

The Environmental Protection Agency announced that they are awarding the Onondaga Environmental Institute a $25,000 environmental justice grant. The reason for the grant, they say, is that Onondaga Lake is polluted, and this grant will be used to teach Syracuse students about clean water.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is providing a $25,000 grant to the Onondaga Environmental Institute to teach high school students in Syracuse, New York about the serious affects of water pollution on people’s health and the environment and the importance of protecting rivers, lakes and streams in central New York. Syracuse is located on Onondaga Lake, one of the country’s most contaminated lakes. The lake is polluted by a range of contaminants, from mercury to PCBs to untreated sewage that can lead to health problems and degrade water quality. Water pollution in low income areas of Syracuse has made the city a focus of EPA efforts to reduce pollution in low income communities.

“EPA environmental justice grants provide much needed funds to tackle local pollution problems in low income communities,” said Judith A. Enck, EPA Regional Administrator. “The environmental justice grant to the Onondaga Environmental Institute will educate high school students about water pollution and give them the skills they need to be the next generation of environmental stewards.”

What a crock. The cleanup of Onondaga Lake has been going on for years, and much progress has already been made. This has nothing to do with the lake and everything to do with wasting taxpayer dollar promoting an agenda.

$25,000? Give me a 5 gal bucket of water, I’ll throw some trash, oil, dirt and some old car parts in it. Then offer it to any one to drink. The kids will look in there and want to barf. Lesson Learned-and $25,000 saved!

Are libs really this brain dead?

That lake has been polluted since before I was born.
I grew up there and went to SU for college many, many moons ago. No, I won’t give an exact number of moons. HEH.
