Jay Carney Deflects Questions on Defense Authorization Act and Detaining US Citizens

White House Spokesman Jay Carney

Jay Carney probably wasn’t too happy with ABC News reporter Jake Tapper’s questions regarding the National Defense Authorization Act and the provision allowing for indefinite detention of US citizens. Basically, the White House position is that they know they can detain citizens, but they won’t. We can trust them because President Obama included a signing statement. The fact that this is now law, and future presidents don’t have to abide by the signing statements of prior presidents didn’t seem to dawn on Jay Carney.

CARNEY: Well, I would just refer you to the president’s statement — signing statement about it.

TAPPER: But that’s not a declaration of — I’m not talking about how he’s going to implement it. I’m just talking about the law as it stands on the books.

CARNEY: Well, I understand that. And we’ve made clear what our position is on how it needs to be implemented in a way that’s consistent with our values, in a way that — and in a way that maintains maximum flexibility for our operators in the field.

TAPPER: Well, let me just ask this final question: Are you comfortable with how any president in the future might interpret that law?

CARNEY: Well –

TAPPER: Is the president comfortable?

CARNEY: Again, you’re — that’s a hypothetical about the future. And in terms of how we will approach this issue in the future, I don’t want to speculate. I can just point you to the way we have discussed it and the signing statement, as you mentioned, that the president used when he signed it into law.

Read the whole thing.

Isn’t his boss supposed to be a constitutional scholar or something?

That’s not the only question Carney dodged, either. He has nothing to say about Obama’s college transcripts.

His job is to tell any lie necessary to keep his boss from looking bad. Why any person in his right mind would believe a word that comes out of his mouth mystifies me.

His qualifications for the job are misinformation, ambiguity, and obfuscation. What a piece of work.

Carney has an ideal to defend and a top notch propaganda machine to energize. His answers are shallow, deceptive and serve the purpose of the Chicago style political machine!
The goal of the new Marxist left is to enact laws that empower and bolster the powers of the president to wage war against any person or group that threatens to politically threaten the longevity of the leader.
The unconstitutional powers, afforded to the president, by the Defense Authorization Act are designed to allow him the ability to practice class warfare, to silence any political enemy without legal recourse!
With similar powers, Stalin was able to create lists of political enemies to be whisked away to the Gulags to silence enemies real and imagined. However, we have President Obama’s word, repeated by the Carney parrot, that even though the president has these powers, he will not abuse them!
    Do you believe?
