Reuters Screwed Up Big Time in Rubio Hit Piece

Boy, did Reuters ever screw up when they published their hit piece on Senator Marco Rubio. I guess their fact checkers had the day off. Matt Lewis found seven factual errors, and then one of his readers found an eighth error. Of course, none of the factual errors in the Reuters piece cast Rubio in a favorable light. The article makes it sound like he’s a deadbeat who doesn’t pay his bills.

Now this version of the article shows two corrections, but this version shows five corrections. But the really strange thing about the story is the angle they’re taking. Everyone lately has been beating up on the super-wealthy, and now Reuters is digging at Rubio for having some money struggles? Philip Klein is puzzled.

Also, as Lewis notes, the whole premise of the story is odd to begin with, even if it were true. Rubio is a suspect vice presidential pick because he’s struggled to pay his mortgage? Seriously? In an era where candidates are fighting to prove they’re “in touch” with the problems facing the rest of the country and when Mitt Romney is under fire for his wealth, this is an attack line now? The author also writes that, “He has not endeared himself to Hispanic voters on several fronts, analysts say.” Yet the only “analyst” (singular) he quotes to back up that claim is “Fernand Amandi with Bendixen & Amandi, a political consulting firm in Miami that has been retained by the Obama campaign.” (Read More)

On the bright side, do you think Reuters would have made any corrections if not for the internet?

The radical left is in full scale smear mode for any and all contenders in the GOP presidential and vice presidential races! Fact checkers tend to get in the way of lefty journalism!
The Democrats must be starting to take the Rubio for VP consideration very seriously!
Next, Pelosi will be appearing on some left wing news channel wanting to predict the early demise of Rubio’s political ambitions!
Then, she will want to play, “I’ve got a Secret: Marco Rubio Edition!”
The waters are definitely going to be bloodied this election year!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally in favor of freedom of the press. But blatant falsehoods and lies should be challenged in a court of law when perpetrated by a professional news organization. And if found guilty, a heavy fine with a required full contraction and apology before being allowed to report news again. This would apply to all media outlets, print, radio, tv and on-line that are professionally run.

This would protect the peoples right to the truth. Any story that is just opinion could be given, so long as it is at the very start of the piece, identified as pure opinion.

I’m tired of reading/hearing news about something or someone and still needing to triple fact check before I can be reasonabley sure it is accurate.

The media has the freedom of the press and we the people should have the right to the unadulterated truth.

Reuters showed their colors yet again. If I were Senator Rubio, I’d file a lawsuit but then again, he’s a better man then I am.
