Sore Loser Newt to Challenge Florida Primary

It looks like sore loser Newt Gingrich is going to challenge how Florida is awarding its primary delegates. Everyone knew going in that Florida was a “winner take all” primary state. Newt could have challenged it before the primary election. But he thought he had a chance to win, so he didn’t. Now that he lost, he wants to change things after the fact.

The Newt Gingrich campaign is gearing up to challenge the results of the Florida Republican presidential primary based on the Republican National Committee’s own rules which state that no contest can be winner-take-all prior to April 1, 2012. (See RNC memo.)

It was assumed that Mitt Romney, who won Tuesday’s contest, would gain all 50 of the state’s delegates. But the Gingrich campaign plans to challenge Florida’s allocation and demand the delegates be divvied up proportionally. (See Gingrich memo.)

Fox News has learned exclusively that on Thursday, a Florida Gingrich campaign official will begin the process of trying to have the RNC rules enforced so that the Sunshine State delegates are distributed based on the percentage of the vote each candidate got. (Read More)

They can’t change things now. How unfair would that be to Rick Santorum and Ron Paul who didn’t campaign as much in Florida knowing the delegates wouldn’t be proportional?

Dem behavior is attempting to make up rules on the fly, a la Gore in 2000. Gingrich is attempting to have the existing rules enforced.

Part of the reason for his success as Speaker of the House was because he paid attention to the rules of the House with respect to parliamentary procedure. Romney may be getting outmaneuvered here in a very expensive way.

The Florida scenario is another obfuscation for the benefit of Romney. Santorum could have had much more momentum going into New Hampshire had he been declared the winner in Iowa on the evening he won. Instead, operatives made sure an accurate count couldn’t be had, so for many days, Romney was known as the winner of Iowa.

The rule about the proportional allotment of delegates in any primary before April 1 has been on the books “for decades” says Reince Priebus, RNC Chair. When interviewed by Greta, Priebus smilingly said that to impose the proportional rule on Florida would have been another penalty for Florida. Well, it sure sounds like Florida wasn’t penalized at all by cutting it’s delegate count in half if they didn’t have to follow the normal rules, too.

If each of the four candidates could have come out of Florida with some delegates, it would bode well for the accumulation of delegates for each of them. Instead, Romney is (again, like in Iowa) called the winner, giving him enormous momentum. The media love Romney, even FoxNews, so they dwell on “victories” like this. Apparently, Reince Priebus and the RNC love Romney, too, to connive with this Romney “victory”, too.

Pure and simple…….it’s wrong to deny the other candidates a portion of Florida delegates.
