President Obama, the dictator of education, (and health care, and mortgages, and everything else under the sun) has granted ten states waivers from the provisions of No Child Left Behind. But don’t start celebrating yet. With Obama, there are always conditions, as noted by Lindsey Burke.
But the Obama administration wouldn’t wait for the legislative process to work. Instead, it told Congress that time was up. From here on, it decreed, the Education Department would start exempting states from the law, provided they agreed to abide by the administration’s preferred policies.
And that’s the catch: these are not simply waivers to provide relief to states from the onerous provisions of No Child Left Behind. These are conditions-based waivers, and the strings attached to this “relief” further tether states to Washington.
Today, the administration announced the first 10 states to “win” waivers.
The Department of Education has decided that Colorado, Georgia, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, Oklahoma, and Tennessee, having promised to toe the line on Secretary Arne Duncan’s key policy preferences, will not have to meet the performance standards set forth in NCLB.
Notice how they’re granting waivers to states on NCLB, and to unions and big companies on Obamacare, but there’s no waiver for Catholic hospitals or universities?

If people read history more often, they’d understand why it’s the middle class that’s the target and perhaps be much more concerned about this man and his Chicago politics….alas, a wealthy and ivy-league-educated Democrat I know proudly announced that he “does not read books”. He reads the NYT, Newsweek, and Vanity Fair. WOW.
He truly believes he knows best, and should be allowed to be the first American dictator. And Americans are so darned optimistic that they’re just certain “it can’t happen here”. It can. It has happened to every great society that refused to recognize what was loose amongst the population. Better take the election seriously, or we’re all doomed. 8 years will be enough to radically change this country.

What a sick joke on our children.
The headline should be that 10 states have been allowed to keep their incompetent teachers, their anti-American school boards and to continue teaching the socialist drivel they have been shoving down the throats of our children.
We expect truth in advertising. We should demand it in politics.

Do you have a clue how ridiculous you sound, that you have everything ass-backwards? What, do you read the NYT, Newsweek, and Vanity Fair? Is that where you get your history and political education? WOW, are you lost and confused.
You’ll have to read a few history BOOKS, friend, and come back with an argument that is not vague phrasing tossed our way…offer a specific thought with the logical path you explored to back it up. It is the LEFT that desires rewriting the ‘flawed Constitution’ that protects your individual rights against an authoritarian government or the mob of hungry people who call themselves your neighbors and want what is “fair”: more than half of what you have. Even my 12 year old nephew recognizes the inherently unfair, dishonest, illogical nature of the things his progressive teachers try to present to him as fact. Thank God we’ve got a kid who, all on his own, questions it rather than swallowing it whole.
The one thing I do not understand about Socialists, and perhaps you can shed some light on it John, is why you are so opposed to being CALLED Socialists. Why are you not proud of the title, if you believe it’s such a moral ideology?
