The Deification of Trayvon Martin and the Rage Against Justice from the Left
After weeks of lies, hysteria and re-edits, perpetrated by the progressive media, the State of Florida finally charged George Zimmerman with second degree murder for his role in shooting Trayvon Martin. This action should have placated the liberal press, but instead has led to an almost immediate outcry by the media for racial justice in the case.
MSNBC commentator and chief antagonist in this situation so far, Al Sharpton has quickly set the stage for a religious-racial war on Zimmerman. Sharpton continues to focus media attention on the case even after his arrest. In a CNS News article, Al Sharpton Cites Trial of Jesus in Discussing Trayvon Martin Case. Sharpton compares the trial for justice for Trayvon Martin to the trial of Jesus Christ.
“Inequities” in the criminal justice system go back to the time of Jesus, the Rev. Al Sharpton said in discussing the Trayvon Martin case.
We believe in Jesus, they crucified him and never had a charge,” the Rev. Sharpton told a of his National Action Network in Washington, D.C., on Thursday. “They never charged, there wasn’t no crime on his indictment. So we’ve got to deal with the inequities of the criminal justice system. The fact that we (black people) are overly-incarcerated, the fact that we go to court and are treated differently, and the fact that when we’re victimized there is not the same response. That’s what Trayvon was about.”
He continues his spin on the Martin case as follows:
“Sharpton, who hosts both a radio and TV show on MSNBC, said Martin’s attorney Benjamin Crump called him last month, requesting publicity about Trayvon’s death:
“The reason they called us was to try and make it a big case,” Sharpton said. “I put Crump on the radio show that day and on the television show that night, and we began building.
“Then everybody say, ‘Well they ain’t gonna get nothing done no how.’ And it kept going and going and people got involved — culminating, as you know, yesterday (when Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder).
“Now they are going to attack those of us involved, ‘cause that’s what they always do. Part of job of activists is, you want them to attack you and not the victim and the family. You want to absolve it to you. So I’m ready for all of that.”
While Sharpton has clamored for justice, he is not interested in a trial that gives Zimmerman a chance to defend himself against second degree murder.
The morning following the formal charges of Zimmerman, Trayvon’s mother admitted on the Today Show she felt at peace and that the situation was probably an accident. However, such a conciliatory tone was not allowed to settle, there was an immediate backlash to her remarks.
Lee Stranahan, Breitbart.com continues the tale of the progressive media’s hate-mongering stories. BLACK ACTIVIST TO TRAYVON’S PARENTS: ‘GET OFF THE STAGE’ AND LET US POLITICIZE HIS DEATH;
In his bluntly-titled article, Note to Trayvon’s Mother: It’s Time for You to Step to the Side, Dr. Watkins referred to the recent Today Show appearance by Trayvon Masrtin’s mother where she said:
“One of the things that I still believe in, a person should apologize when they are actually remorseful for what they’ve done. I believe it was an accident. I believe that it just got out of control and he couldn’t turn the clock back. I would ask him, did he know that that was a minor, that that was a teenager, and that he did not have a weapon?”
Dr. Watkin’s reaction is pretty stunning:
“When I heard these words, I froze in my tracks. I couldn’t believe that Trayvon’s mother would make a statement that was in such stark contradiction to the charges being brought forth by the prosecutor. In fact, there’s a big part of me that wonders why she was on the show at all.”
Note that Dr. Watkins is not concerned with the veracity of the statement but rather how the statement affects the politically motivated prosecution of George Zimmerman. In fact, later in the article Dr. Watkins explicitly says that even if the assessment of the shooting as an accident was honest, it should not of been said.”
The revelations are surprising, but not unexpected. The progressive media has spent weeks building a strong case of racial profiling against Zimmerman in the news and do not want to lose momentum in what could be the major racially dividing story of the decade.
In the weeks following the arrest of Zimmerman, we can expect more race-baiting and hate-mongering stories while the petition to make Trayvon Martin a saint makes its rounds. This is not about justice, it is about class warfare!
This republic is based on justice through the courts, not about power, hatred and bloodshed.
Let’s pray for justice, not revolution George Soros style.
