The Wall Street Journal reported that President Obama suggested that if he is elected to a second term he will appoint a Secretary of Business to oversee various government agencies involved in business activities. He also said something else that is interesting.
The president, speaking to the hosts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” after a campaign rally in New Hampshire Saturday, said if voters elect him to a second term he will have a clear mandate for raising taxes as part of a deficit-reduction deal. Such an agreement, he said, “clears away a lot of the ideological underbrush” and would set the stage for bipartisan deals on immigration and Medicare reforms.
“If I’ve won then I believe that’s a mandate for doing it in a balanced way,” Mr. Obama said. “If we get that piece done, and we kind of settle on the big question of how much government we’re going to have and how we’re going to pay for it, then a lot of other stuff falls into place.” (Read More)
