I was at work this morning when news broke that Kevin Clash, the voice of Sesame Street‘s Elmo, was accused by a second young man of statutory rape. For some reason I didn’t think of it as a “distraction” so much as a huge freaking scandal. Sesame Street is part of PBS, that is funded in part by charitable donations and our taxpayer dollars. It’s an institution that parents trust. But the people running the show came out and said that these allegations are nothing but a distraction, so their house pedophile has to go.
Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding Kevin’s personal life has become a distraction that none of us wants, and he has concluded that he can no longer be effective in his job and has resigned from Sesame Street.
Hey, maybe Mitt Romney had a point after all. Then again, maybe those of us who object to the rape of young boys are just homophobic racists.
Via The Other McCain, who also linked to Da TechGuy who noted that if only Cash was a Catholic priest this scandal would be getting the air time it deserves.

So is that how the dude originally got the idea for “Tickle me Elmo”? Yuck.

Unfortunately this incident is not an isolated incident among agencies that receive public money.
It’s time that Sesame Street be unfunded by taxpayers and donors who are aiding and abetting pedifiles!

Spot on! If Kevin Cash was a Catholic priest or Cub Scout leader, CNN and MSDNC would be running continuous coverage around-the-clock of developments in the story.
Our news media is an absolute laughingstock.
