It hasn’t even been 48 hours since we found out President Obama was given a second term and stories of producers going Galt are already beginning.
In Las Vegas, a business owner with 114 employees is letting go 22 of those employees because he knows Obamacare won’t be repealed. He’s not going full Galt, so to speak, but cutting off about 20% of his workforce is a pretty big step in that direction.
I explained to them a month ago that if Obama gets in office that the regulations for Obamacare are gonna hurt our business, and I’m gonna have to make provisions to make sure I have enough money to cover the payroll taxes, the additional health care I’m gonna have to do, and I explained that to them and I said you do what you feel like in your heart you need to do, but I’m just letting you know as a warning this is things I have to think of as a business owner. …
I had to lay off 22 people today to make sure that my business is gonna thrive and I’m gonna be around for years to come. I have to build up that nest egg now for the taxes and regulations that are coming my way. Elections do have consequences, but so do choices. (Read More)
A doctor in Nebraska has been telling his patients that he intends to close his practice and leave the country if Obama is re-elected. Obamacare, he says, will destroy his practice, and he has no intentions of working for the government. It appears that he has not been uttering idle threats. He has purchased property in another country and he really plans to leave.
An executive for a major Midwestern corporation, which recently merged with a similar firm in a larger city, has been contemplating relocation in order to continue working for the company that has employed her for more than three decades. Obama’s re-election has finalized her decision.
“I’m done,” she says at the peak of her career. “There’s no way I’m going back to this level of work and stress and taxation. I’m going Galt. Elections have consequences. I’m over it. You’d be surprised how cheaply I can live. They can tax somebody else.”
The owner of a Japanese restaurant tells one of his employees, who supported Obama, “If he wins, you will lose your job.” It is not a threat. He simply knows what is coming.
The owner of a picture framing gallery, who has struggled to keep her business afloat for the past three years, will close her doors by the end of this year. The final, deciding factor for her was the result of this presidential election. “No one even has the money to pick up the work I’ve already framed for them,” she laments, “and it’s only going to get worse. I’m not working this hard for nothing.” (Read More)
Who can blame any of these people? The past four years was only Obama’s opening act. He was saving the worst for after the election knowing full well that once people started seeing and feeling the disastrous effects of his policies he’d lose his grip on power. They’ll find out soon enough.
I’m sure there are plenty more out there who wish they could just quit. But those of us with families have no choice but to continue working and feeding this beast. But we can have an effect in other ways. I’m thinking that it’s probably a good idea to severely limit spending on anything that isn’t necessary to survival. Not only will it be my own small way of protesting, it also makes perfect economic sense for our family. May as well start saving for the even tougher economic times ahead.

You might be right, but then again, I am always amazed at the resiliency of the capitalist system and its ability to generate such fabulous amounts of wealth that it supports an incredible amount of statist waste.
There are some signs that the economy is going to recover; we are producing vast new quantities of our own energy and it is revitalizing chemicals and manufacturing. The ACA, as bad as it is, isn’t as huge departure from the status quo as people might think. The real killer will be regulation. Obama is fully capable of wrecking a recovery through excessive regulation, but even he may see fit to reign that in.

My thoughts on the capitalist system were formed by the author who coined the phrase you quote to open this article. Her writings have always given me a faith in human ingenuity.

Ditto on no spending. Nothing. Hoping many businesses close and fire people. I know, I know–I could be one of them. So be it. We’ll eat up the free money and maybe some people will regain some sense and limit his damage. I have zero hope for any quality life tonight. And I’m really bitter about the people who voted to sacrifice me. Rich democrats will get richer with Obama (oh, I’ve already seen it in person! The REAL reason they support Obamacare!), the lemmings will continue to hold out their hands for free stuff, and we in the middle will be the collateral damage. A terrible thing just happened to the country. I’m done with it.

I’ve been thinking about the charity thing, too. I mean, didn’t we just vote to have the government take care of everyone? Why do we need charities anymore?

A study of Obama care recently said that employers have no choice but to pay, etc, etc. Other choices include going out of business, moving to another country, having no employees, just “contractors”.

Now I regret the donation I made to help those goobers up north in the storm. Their beloved FEMA doesn’t care about them, why the hell should I?

I am going Galt. No hiring, keeping spending way down. Most importantly, I have channel blocked all the MSM + Fox and cable news. I will no longer listen to talk radio.

We’ve already gone half-Galt. We live on our sailboat in the Caribbean half the year and I work the other 4 to 5 months. We may go full-Galt with this election if we can make it work financially. We have a high deductible, reasonable cost health insurance (because we’re out of the country 6 months). We pay a lot less in taxes. The lifestyle requires self-reliance, but the freedom is so worth it. I realize most people don’t want to live on a boat, but you need to find a way to make something similar work. You won’t regret it. Especially now!

Roger that…severely limit spending. Got an entire side of family who has lived off the govt teat all their lives. Now the offspring are popping out welfare babies left, front, & center. This doesn’t count the innumerable times we had to send out thousand $$$ checks to bail someone out of a bad situation. I sent word that Xmas this year would be a card wishing them well as my husband & I are staring down a huge tax bill.

GOING GALT
The disastrous results of the recent U.S. election have been the tipping point for many people. Gun sales and layoffs are going through the roofs. I’ve heard more people use the phrase “Going Galt” in the past week than in the entire year before it.
