According to the government, the official unemployment rate ticked up a notch to 7.9%. We’re still moving in the wrong direction, even after trillions of dollars have been spent and added to the national debt. But government workers are doing pretty well, their unemployment rate is only 4.2%.
The unemployment rate in the government sector continued to decline in October, dropping to 4.2 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
As recently as July, the unemployment rate for government workers was 5.7 percent. But in August that dropped to 5.1 percent, then in September to 4.3 percent, and then in October to 4.2 percent.
The overall unemployment rate for October was 7.9 percent.
See Zero Hedge for perspective on how the overall jobs numbers are created by the bureaucrats.
Update: Ken Gardner made some good points about the unemployment rate on twitter.

I am not really understanding what the Federal Gov’t unemployment is. Is this based on the number of job openings or the jobs announced for the Feds? Or the number of people that have been laid off from Fed Govt employment? Usually that is done by attrition and I have heard of no rifs so where is this data coming from?

TLC (and related conservative blog) readers know that the bureaucracy and the illegals garnered most of the jobs “created” by this statist administration.
In other words— how we got to the 47% figure.

A gov’t job should NOT count as a new job as it doesn’t sustain itself but rather depends on taxes for a paycheck.
