For months Warren Buffett has been out there shilling for higher taxes on the rich. He could easily pay more in taxes if he so chose, but he doesn’t. No doubt he uses every tax loophole available to him, and will continue to do so if his tax rate is increased. He’s different than the small business owner earning $250,000 and trying to keep a company afloat. But this isn’t about reality, and Buffett knows this. He also knows that the tax increases Obama’s looking for would be a drop in the bucket when it comes to the national debt and the deficit. So now he’s resorting to insulting middle class Americans to make the case.
I think [tax increases] would have a great effect in terms of the morale of the middle class, who have seen themselves paying high payroll taxes, income taxes. And then they watch guys like me end up paying a rate that’s below that, you know, paid by the people in my office.
Hard working middle class Americans don’t sit around worrying about what tax rate Warren Buffett pays on interest and dividends. The only reason we know anything about his tax rate is because he and the politicians have politicized it. What we don’t appreciate is this monstrous tax code that allows rich people like Buffett to hire expensive tax attorneys and experts so they can avoid paying taxes. Buffett isn’t proposing simplifying the tax code. He isn’t proposing reducing spending and the national debt that’s going to bankrupt our middle class children.
Middle class morale would improve with a growing economy and a stronger dollar. Lower gas and energy prices would improve middle class morale. A government that balances its books by keeping spending in line with revenue would improve middle class morale. Limousine liberals like Warren Buffett don’t do anything to improve middle class morale.
What an arrogant condescending SOB.

I loath this man more every day! Does he REALLY want to help raise the morale of the middle class? Then how about lowering the interest rates on our home loans, or lowering the principle balances on those loans? How about that, Warren? Wanna see a morale booster? Do something for those of us whose mortgages you hold instead of saying “too bad, we are not compelled by law to participate and so we don’t” and stiffing those of us who actually pay our bills and ON TIME. He’s happy to rake us over the coals while he spouts this fake philanthropic crap. Someone needs to make him shut the eff up, already!!! (i feel a little better now)

I think, if Buffett weren’t a monstrous hypocrite on the level of Obama, that I would expect him to just write a big check to the government. He, and every Leftist like him who claims that the rich need to pay more — can just pay more! Why wait for a new law?
Of course, that will never happen. Hypocrisy is ingrained in the Leftist mindset, apparently. Blacks are ENTITLED to Jesse Jackson Junior’s Seat, for some reason. Can you imagine the political firestorm if whites (or worse, white males) said they were entitled to a given Seat, and were concerned that so many white candidates could dillute the vote and let a black win the seat?
It’s so damn ingrained that I don’t even think the Left sees it. It’s so a part of who they are that it doesn’t even dawn on them, and that’s pretty scary.
So let Buffett and Clooney and the rest write large checks to the IRS instead of Obama, if they are so concerned. Of course, we know they aren’t, and that they will still employ hordes of tax accountants and lawyers to pay the absolute minumum they can, just like they always have.
This is getting more depressing by the day — why will no one publicly call these people out on their Double Standards?

You’re exactly correct, Lonely Conservative.
The billionaire populist Buffett is a political entrepreneur, an opportunist and lobbyist, who has received taxpayer bailouts and subsidization, favorable unique legislation for his holding companies and investments as a prime representative of a crony-capitalist.
