By immediately dismissing Senator Rand Paul as a possible 2016 presidential candidate, Washington insiders may have just made him a favorite for the nomination.
Insiders who dismissed Rep. Ron Paul’s frequent runs for president have little support for his more moderate son, Sen. Rand Paul running for president in 2016. According to the National Journal’s “Political Insiders Poll”there is zero support for the libertarian-leading Republican Senator of Kentucky.
This could actually signal a positive sign for Paul’s chances in 2016, as his father’s supporters have little use for the opinions of Washington insiders.
Senator Marco Rubio was the favorite of the Republican insiders. The Democrats like the idea of either New Jersey Governor Chris Christie or former Florida Governor Jeb Bush getting the GOP nod. Gee, I wonder why.

@lonelycon they want rubio who is the status quo

Rand Paul is knowledgeable, articulate, not old and wrinkled, a constitutional conservative, a libertarian but worst of all, a member of the Tea Party movement. He represents everything insiders find unattractive in a candidate. Not that I don’t like Marco Rubio, but he’s back flipped on illegal immigration. And I am totally against granting amnesty to anyone who has not earned their citizenship.

I’m really counting on Rand running in 2016, someone has to run that represents person liberty and actually dealing with our debt. And I feel like if we start now, Rand could have a great campaign going 4 years from now, building off of his father’s base. Without Ron I am 100% behind Rand Paul 2016!

Speaking of Washington insiders, Jonathan Tobin goes off on Rand Paul in a post on Commentary’s blog
http://www.commentarymagazine.com/2012/11/09/will-rand-paul-hijack-the-pro-israel-gop/
“The younger Paul is more politically astute and probably a lot more marketable to a mainstream audience than his father was. But he is no less opposed to a mindset that sees a strong America and a strong alliance with Israel as integral to U.S. foreign policy than the older libertarian. That makes it entirely possible that under Rand’s leadership, radical libertarians will move from the fever swamps of the GOP to the mainstream. That’s bad news for the Republican Party, and could make their efforts to attract more pro-Israel and Jewish voters even more futile than they have been in the past.”
Yes, let us fear “radical libertarians.” They are scarier than zombies, to some apparently.
