Walmart was one of Obamacare’s corporate proponents while the dreadful law was being debated. Now that it’s a reality, they’re dumping employees onto the government healthcare plans to cut costs. Is that what they had in mind when they supported having this law rammed down our throats?
According to the 2013 Walmart “Associate’s Benefit Book”— the manual for low-level Walmart employees—part-time workers who got their jobs during or after 2011 will now be subject to an “Annual Benefits Eligibility Check” each August.
Employees hired after Feb. 1, 2012, who fail to average the magic 30-hours per week requiring a company to provide a healthcare benefit, will lose their healthcare benefits on the following January. Part-time workers hired after Jan. 15, 2011, but before Feb. 1, 2012, will be able to hang onto their Walmart health care benefit if they work at least 24 hours a week.
Anyone hired before 2011 will not be cut off from the company provided health insurance.
Of course, Walmart carefully controls employee work schedules and will have the opportunity to design worker hours in a manner that will keep employees at a level below the threshold required to accomplish company healthcare benefits pursuant to the law. (Read More)
Also in the news today is a new fee for covering preexisting conditions that will most likely be passed along to workers, even the healthy ones.
Is there anyone out there who really believed Obamacare was going to mean free health care for all? What a joke. It’s causing millions of people to lose coverage, and they’ll have to buy insurance through government mandated exchanges or pay a big fine. What a choice.

@lonelycon – as will many other large corporations

ObamaTaxCare is another unsustainable entitlement vehicle for total government control over the individual. NYS had already been through health care reform and covered “pre-existing” conditions so we can get multiple taxation with another $63 tax. We’re paying for bureaucracy and loss of freedoms, NOT health care. States participating in federal exchanges will take on the expense in Medicaid for their taxpayers to burden. Nudging us into destructive Government run single-payer inferior health care.
Hypocrites. Hillary and Michelle both sat on Wal-Mart Board of Trustee companies collecting salaries and donations while the Destruct-O-Crats wrote favorable loopholes for Chinese trade but liberal union groups chided their husbands for exploiting woman/child labor and human rights violations.
