Many of us wouldn’t mind seeing armed police officers or security guards in our schools to protect our children. But calling for the National Guard seems to be a bit much, don’t you think? But that’s what Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) is calling for.
Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) announced Wednesday that she is planning to introduce two bills to protect students at schools – the school safety enhancement act, which expands the existing COPS program (Community Oriented Policing Services), and SOS or Save Our Students, which would expand the National Guard program.
SOS “would expand a successful National Guard program in place since 1989 that allows governors to use the guard to assist with law enforcement efforts related to drug interdiction and counter-drug activities. So we take a successful program, and we say we’re gonna add a new purpose, and that’s what we do in our legislation,” she said.
“National Guard troops could be used to support local law enforcement agencies in protecting our children at schools. This could take the form of additional guards at school as well as capital improvements such as strengthening the perimeters of the school and safety procedures,” Boxer added.(Read More)

The Nat’l Guard would be OK by me only if temporary and they were NOT in uniform. Otherwise it smacks police state.

I would have no objection to them helping implement security procedures, but having military patrols of the schools would be disturbing.

National Guard in schools is NOT okay with me. What kind of national emergency are they protecting us from? This really smacks of police state to me.
I don’t know what kind of crap Boxer is using instead of brains. I can see it now…school compounds enclosed in razor wire, guard towers with 50 caliber machine guns manned by soldiers in Kevlar and camo.
What these libtards don’t seem to comprehend is that the enemy is NOT AFRAID TO DIE. And not afraid to take as many innocents with them as possible. You cannot beat that kind of enemy with these “show of force” efforts. They will simply plan their way around them. In that regard, they are a lot like Muslim terrorists.
I’m more afraid for this country than I’ve ever been in my entire 59 years.

I don’t have the same vision Boxer does (liberals are so afraid of being alive and walking around, they always overreact). But I thought about this the other night–I doubt any school can afford to hire armed police officers or security officers for every single school. But could you not have national guard personnel, as part of their service, hanging out in a central spot, in civilian clothing, and armed? If you can’t pay for that, are there not enough retired Guard personnel to volunteer one week a month on a rotating basis? Come on, it’s not nearly as difficult to solve as people make it out to be—but YEAH, it requires some actual sacrifice. If Obama hadn’t destroyed my personal finances, I would donate one day a week of my time, I’d be happy to be the Monday Responder every week. Because it’s the fact that these are vulnerable people (children and, overwhelmingly, women) in “gun free zones” that’s exactly what makes them dangerous places. At the least, knowing an armed response is LIKELY, not just possible, is a big deterrant. If Matt Lauer and Diane Feinstein are so important they deserve armed bodyguards, are not our kids?? I propose we give up the entire health care overhaul to pay for armed security in schools. How ’bout that? No one wants the former and everyone wants the latter.
If we are not going to address the real problem here—that you cannot address a mentally ill person UNTIL they kill someone—then you’re going to have to put up with armed guards of some fashion in order to reduce (not even eliminate) the likelihood that this will happen again. There is one problem only: mentally defective persons. The weapon of choice is immaterial.

Another politician trying to gain “fame and glory” on a very horrific and tragic event. Proposing another wasteful and useless piece of “legislation” that don’t carry the weight it’s written on. What a mockery of our government made up of clowns!!!
