Of course bad things happen all the time, but doesn’t it seem like the frequency is increasing? A few years ago we put Christmas lights along the fence that borders our yard and someone stole them. Whoever it was took the time to remove the staples and steal hundreds of feet of lights. I remember trying to explain to the kids why someone would steal our Christmas lights. I guess it’s just another sad sign of the times – virtue is now frowned upon, while envy and decadence are celebrated. In this brave new world I suppose you’re lucky if all that happens to you is having a few strings of lights stolen.
Update: Linked by Daily Pundit – thanks!

Have you noticed that during periods of Liberalism’s term of power, people are just meaner and uglier and more craven?? It seems to have been true during each “me me me” decade; and those are actually defined by Liberal policies, not conservative ones…. the country survived the 20s and the 60s…maybe we’ll survive this, too. But I have fewer hopes for that these days.

I’m sorry that it happened to you, but I suspect in general that the incidence hasn’t changed much: we now are able to hear about it more, though. My impression is that we used to see a lot more Christmas-light theft (including some of our own) in the 1970s. Offered for what it’s worth.
