On this date in 1941 the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, bringing the United States into World War II. Over 3,500 Americans were killed or wounded in the attack. Today more than 2000 Americans are gathered at Pearl Harbor to mark the 71st anniversary of the “day that will live in infamy.”
When I think about Pearl Harbor (and 9/11/01) I think that our enemies have failed at destroying us from without. Whether they will be able to destroy us from within remains to be seen.
Zilla’s co-blogger Rides a Pale Horse put together this video of remembrance.
Also, be sure to see the post at Gateway Pundit that has a never before published account of what one reporter saw at Pearl Harbor on 12/7/41.

Thank you for the linky.
Imagine if we had responded to the attack on Pearl Harbor the way we have in the wake of the September 11, 2001 islamic terror attacks. We’ve been doing everything wrong regarding the people who are trying to kill us for far too long now!

Everybody should see the movie “Tora Tora Tora”. Very revealing about who knew what before the attack. Nothing like a war to get a president out of a bad economy.

Too bad our youth in schools today aren’t even taught about the significance of Pearl Harbor Day. My 15-year-old says he’s never heard about it in school. The only reason he knows about it is because…..it’s Mom’s birthday! Happy birthday to me. Hee-hee!

You think your birthday is on a bad date? My birthday is on the REAL day of infamy, Nov. 4. Just think of the totally horrible catastrophe that was inflicted on the USA on that day in 2008. Makes Dec.7 a day to celebrate, by comparison. My appropriate celebration for Obama election day would have been suicide.

Oh, no, it doesn’t bother me at all that my birthday is Pearl Harbor Day. It wasn’t OUR fault that the Japanese decided to attack us. And I agree with you that 11/4/08 was a dark day in America, as well. Just as 11/7/12 was. I’m still sick to my stomach, and it’s been 4 weeks.

Very nice of you to put together information on Pearl Harbor Day. I viewed all of the links. Imagine Elizabeth McIntosh being censored all these years for her accounting of the event.
FDR was an appeaser, an isolationist, an ignoramus of genocide. Then we were attacked.

FDR was a democrat, by the way. Nobody talks about that. Republicans are always blamed for wars. Unbelievable.

I had my son read FDR’s speech because I knew there would be no mention of Pearl Harbor Day at school on December 7th…and I was right. I wonder if 50 years from now, we will have the same attitude towards September 11th?

Hasn’t even taken that long, Scott. Ask someone about what happened on 9-11 and you’ll likely get either a deer in the headlights look and no answer, or maybe someone will mention the four Americans murdered in Benghazi since it’s still relatively fresh in the mind of SOME or you’ll get (most likely) a blank, vacant stare and nothing.
Those who do remember Pearl Harbor are going fast and those of us who remember those who remember Pearl Harbor aren’t all that far behind them. History and sacrifice means nothing to most anymore.
