I was planning to take this evening and tomorrow off from blogging, but couldn’t let this pass without commenting. The Journal News in Westchester, NY (owned by Gannett) has made public a list of names and addresses of all pistol permit holders in Westchester and Rockland Counties. This is horrible. Not only does it let criminals know where they can go to steal guns, it also lets the criminals know which homes are unarmed. (But they do have to beware of those who may have long guns, because permits aren’t needed for those.)
The map looks like this, but the original online version allows users to click on the dots to find out where the guns are.
You can read the comments from readers here.
NewsBusters noted:
Instapundit’s question in response to what the Journal News has done is more than appropriate: “I guess nobody could object to people putting the newspaper staff’s addresses on the Web now, right?”
I’m sure there are a few enterprising bloggers out there who would be happy to oblige.
Other reactions can be found at memeorandum.
According to ABC News, after publishing the names of permit holders nobody from the paper was available for comment. Oh, and they would have included Putnam County but those records weren’t available yet.
In related news, NBC’s David Gregory waved around a high capacity magazine on his show even though those magazines are outlawed in Washington, DC. He should be prosecuted. And the petition to have Piers Morgan deported for his attacks on the 2nd amendment has really picked up steam.
H/T Physics Nut
Update: Linked by The First Street Journal, where you can find a photo of Dwight Worley’s house. Worley is the one who thought it would be just fine to post his neighbors’ personal information.

Some shitstain in Virginia did something like this about 5 years ago, comparing concealed carry holders to child molesters when pulling ‘the public has a right to know!’ card. I think this also included the CCW-holder’s residential address, including people like battered spouses or retired corrections officers

Irresponsible liberals are the reason we need to be armed in the first place. I can’t believe this is legal, and even if it is it is still irresponsible and morally despicable.

This has all the markings of a great ” class action ” lawsuit. Where are the 2nd Amendment lawyers ? Step up to the plate.

what if Adam Lanza drove a Lexus into a playground full of children and killed twenty. Would the Journal News make an interactive map of Lexus owners in Westchester ? I am sure the editors know some cops who would think it totally insane.
And by the way – when it comes to civil strife, the South Bronx was not reduced to rubble with guns, but rather by arson;. Gas and rags or newspapers being cheaper than guns.
I mentioned scapegoating before – and here is a textbook example of it. The Journal News has decided on its own that the Second Amendment is not legitimate. I wonder how many other idiots are out there who get the same notion.
The first time I saw an actual handgun, I was visiting someone in the east village, going up the stairs somebody left their door half open – it was some large dude filling glassine envelopes with white powder and he had a great big 45 automatic next to his hand. I just kept going up the stairs – wondering if I had a weird expression on my face. Offhand, given the context, I suspect that this dude did not stand in line at the county clerk’s office to get a permit. They don’t give permits to anybody in Manhattan unless you are a movie star.

On Christmas eve an ex-con in Webster, NY set his house on fire to lure firefighters so he could ambush them. He killed two, and injured others. He had previously beaten his grandmother to death with a hammer. He did not obtain his gun legally. Criminals aren’t interested in gun laws.

I’d put an ad in the paper. ” Now you know where I live and that I am armed. Come and get me chickenshit.”

He beat a 92 year old woman to death with a hammer. Think about the details of that. And was allowed to plead, rather than put to death (if ever a crime deserved the death penalty, that one would). This defective bad seed is the problem, not the weapon he chose to use. Do we want to risk being unarmed when the Left constantly votes to “rehabilitate” someone like this? It is the notion that you can fix something that is so irretrievably broken in a human being that is so dangerous. You can’t rehabilitate someone to a state of being that never existed within them in the first place. Will the Journal News publish the names and addresses of all known societal misfits? That would be a service to their community. Not this crap.

He didn’t start the fires, the matches did it. Outlaw matches. Who turned this menace loose on society after he bludgeoned his grandma to death? Ban whoever did that.

Catch and Release, makes for lousy fishing and an even worse criminal justice system. Sadly the perp from Webster is not the first paroled killer to go an area murder spree, Does the name Artie Shawcross ring a bell?
Mario Jr. needs to go after the felons and ot the law abiding patriots.

It’s unfortunate that the left has more contempt for their fellow Americans, lawfully exercising Constitutional rights than for Islamic madmen with the promise and intent of using nuclear weaponry with genocidal, bigoted prejudice.

The takeaway from this is that this is exactly what happens when we are forced to give the government our private information for anything such as this, they use it against us and their databases are anything but secure. Heck, one of the threats for identity theft are IRS agents themselves.

exactly – where is the “conversation” about suicide bombers. It seems to me that Adam Lanza was in that mindset, given his actions. There was somebody on TV saying that Lanza was going for a place in history, and at the last moment shot himself when the police appeared, as if it was an afterthought. But a simpler explanation is that after 10 years of 300 million americans hearing about suicide bombings, some people get screwball ideas. I suspect his intention was suicide from the outset, and to get back at everyone he blames for whatever. There are always some people who figure that if anyone is willing to give their life to a cause then there must be something to it, and then some identify with it, and some go out and do it. After all – look at that nutlib from california who calls his mom and says ” hi – guess what – I joined the Taliban.”. Are all Americans immune ? Obviously not. Not all Romans were immune to Christian martyrs either, but probably most Romans were glad to get rid of them. That is why I want to see any suicide note that indicates Lanza’s state of mind, who he was listening to, if anyone. If you look at the suicide bombers in the mideast, most are railroaded into it – so that is always a factor. Others identify with it wholeheartedly.
But the left wants their crisis to bear fruit, and thus they stoop to scapegoating. Alternet says the NRA wants a police state, of all things. Sounds like Germany in the 1930s which is a good reason to keep an eye on things.

Public information: The reporter is Dwight R Worley, 23006 139th Avenue, Springfield Gardens, NY 11413. I’ll spare giving out the phone number, though it’s relatively easy to find out now — I expect the number would be busy if anyone elected to call. Worley is also listed as owning a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum.
Does anyone want to know the names and addresses of the editors of the Journal News?

I was set to write down more extensive information, because, after all, “the people have a right to know”, correct? But Robert Cox at Talk of the Sound has done a great job of providing these brave reporters with an opportunity to show the courage of their convictions:

Photos of Mr Worley, Ms Hasson, Ms Cyndee Royale, and Ms Nancy Cutler are easy to find by googling the name and ‘images’.
Feel free to share with them your opinion about their ‘jounalistic integrity’.

wonder if they were coordinating with Cuomo or whoever. Can’t somebody subpoena all their emails or whatever is needed to determine whether this little idea originated with them or from outside. Is something fishy going on ? If this is their idea of a Christmas present, what other weird presents are under the tree ?

Hey, Jesse, discounting the fact that the marbles in your head have moved to your pie-hole, can you please explain WHY the unemployment rate among black males is 40%, and WHY they’re uneducated, and WHY every policy you support – welfare, welfare, mo’ money, mo’ WELFARE – is directly responsible for the things you lament?
Good grief, Hammers, we’re dealing with MORONS… M-O-R-O-N-S.
