What do you think of this idea? A Pennsylvania lawmaker wants to change how Electoral College votes are awarded in the state to a proportional, rather than winner-take-all system.
A Pennsylvania lawmaker’s plan to divvy up electoral votes based on a presidential candidate’s public support may be just the first of many state legislative moves to alter the way the nation chooses a leader.
State Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi, a Republican from Chester, wants to replace the winner-take-all system, which gave President Barack Obama Pennsylvania’s 20 electoral votes, with one that divides them to reflect the proportion of public support for each candidate. His method would have given 12 votes to Obama and eight to Republican Mitt Romney this year.
“Anyone who voted for Governor Romney, and many Pennsylvanians did, does not have any reflection of that vote in the electoral college vote,” Pileggi said. “This is a proposal that is not party specific or partisan in any way, but just an attempt to have the popular vote reflected in the electoral college vote.” (Read More)
The article goes on to note that if this sort of system was in place in every state in the last election President Obama still would have won, but it would have been much closer with Obama getting 281 electoral votes and Romney winning 256. As it is, Obama won 332 to 206, which sounds like a landslide until you look at the electoral map.

At this point, I’m skeptical of any more complexity. I think it’s a Constitutional change as well and it just might open the door for more chicanery and ultimately, more derision of our system and division between Americans. But, I’m a simple guy.

The Libturds will never go for it. They like the electoral college being the way it is. If electoral votes were changed, Obi-one, Dingy Harry, Piglosi, Scummer, and the rest of the corrupt douche nozzles in the Kenyan bastard’s administration, would be bitching like little school children. This President is an absolute corrupt individual, who displays no reservation pushing his Marxist agenda. This Kenyan and his slag of a wife, can move to Hawaii, and live out the rest of their lives in relative obscurity. The less seen and heard the better!!!!

I would have to withhold judgement on that idea…until I hear what the Democrats think of it. If they deny it in a panic, then I’m all for it. Emotionally speaking, I would like it much better than winner take all; Obama “bought or bullied” certain states for their Electoral votes and Romney voters in those states were devastated that their votes were not even visible. It sounds like a good idea but I need to assess the pitfalls… and, jcoff, liberals DON’T like the college the way it is; their goal is to eliminate it, knowing that sheer numbers of liberals in larger cities will always carry their votes; the College ensures that the conservatives in those “flyover states” are not ruled by city libturds. I hear over and over from them “we’ve got to get rid of the Electoral College”—so we need to be vigilant and vocal in protecting it.

Would that not make the electorial collage vote effectively the same as the popular vote? In such a situation the entire State(for example) of Wyoming, or Montana, or Utah, could easily be negated by the minority voters of Los Angeles alone.
The big cities – the east coast and west coast population centers – would always win. That’s why the Electrial College was created… to give smaller States a better voice in the national election.
Liberty 5-3000:
The Democrats no longer care whether or not the Electroial College system continues or dies. They own the big cities, the large population centers, and that is sufficient. And the flyover States are already ruled by the big cities, have been for decades.
Our system – no matter how carefully crafted – cannot work when those who run it are corrupt. And our sytem is totally corrupt. This administration is corrupt, Congress is corrupt, the Court sytem is corrupt, State and local government is corrupt.
There are only two choices: Live with and within all this corruption, or eliminate it by whatever means is required.
But I think you realize that most Americans have already decided to live with it.
That’s why we still have a President the likes of Barak Hussein Obama, an anti-American foreigner that hates everything America is and represents.

Rather than porportional, I would prefer that it be by congressional district with perhaps the 2 senatorial electors decided by who won the popular vote.. although, technically those 2 votes belong to the state. In a state like PA, it could result in a popular vote loss, but an electoral vote win…

The Dems control who counts the votes. Hence, they control the electoral votes.
