Let the caving begin! It looks like Speaker John Boehner has offered to agree to raising tax rates on people with earnings of $1 million and above.
Signaling new movement in “fiscal cliff” talks, House Speaker John Boehner has proposed raising the top rate for earners making more than $1 million, a person familiar with the negotiations said. President Barack Obama, who wants higher top rates for households earning more than $250,000, has not accepted the offer, this person said.
The proposal, however, indicated progress in talks that had appeared stalled. The person would only discuss the plan on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the negotiations.
As part of a broader budget deal, Boehner is still seeking more spending cuts than Obama has proposed, particularly in mandatory health care spending. Boehner has asked for a long-term increase in eligibility age for Medicare and for lower costs-of-living adjustments for Social Security. (Read More)
What are the odds that Obama will shoot down this proposal, just like he’s dismissed every other one? Many of his fellow Democrats, including Senator Chuck Schumer, have stated they only want to raise taxes on million dollar earners, so we’ll see how this plays out.
Update: As expected, Obama turned down Boehner’s office.
Lather, rinse, repeat.

@lonelycon who would have thought Boehner was a spelunker? He is caving already.

Boehner The Spineless cracks first as expected. He should realize no matter what he offers will be turned down because to Obozo wants everything and will let the US go over the cliff to get it.
That said, he at least has made an offer to protect small business but I think it is too little too late.
Anyone got a parachute?

Conservatives always knew it was a matter of time before “Cave Man”, John spoke his mind and heart. Boehner’s a specialist at this along with Cantor so if anyone thinks that Dear Leader is going to face any real resistance, I hope they wake up and smell the toast burnin’.
Instead of spending cuts, now, every time the progressives want to point to how to fix the economy they can just say we need higher taxes and that “the Republicans agree to that too”; and I couldn’t disagree with that statement.

As Allen West said, you cannot negotiate with a Marxist. It is a waste of time to offer any concessions. They never do, except when they have no intention of honoring their “promises” anyway.

Karen,
My website “Tax Politics” (that is listed on your page) was updated last spring to alanjoelny.com. Tax Politics is no longer valid. Would you be willing to put new site up instead (alanjoelny.com) and take down taxpolitics.com? Thanks, Alan
