Live Leak posted this video of former Rep. Suzanna Gratia Hupp testifying before Congress about what she experienced when a mad gunman massacred more than twenty people at a Luby’s restaurant in Texas in 1991. She had a handgun, but left it in her car because concealed carry was illegal. Her parents were among the victims. If she had her gun, she could have saved lives. She went on to become a congresswoman from 1997 to 2007. What she said at this hearing is still true today. Oh, and be sure to watch for the smug look on the face of Senator Chuck Schumer.
Watch and listen to her testimony. Nothing we’re hearing today is new, but her words are just as meaningful today as they were back then. Pay attention when she talks about how many bullets a magazine holds.
H/T to Michael A.

Beautiful smack down. Loved that closing! I see Schumer was always (pardon me for being frank) a dick. I can’t agree with her more, and I often practice that: risk a felony, figuring the only way anyone will know is if I have a dire need to use my weapon, and then it will likely be the least of my problems. In Nevada we have open carry law—I don’t need a permit to carry it in plain sight. Only to carry it concealed. And obviously, can’t carry it where I would likely need it most. I really hope that Team O does not manage to start the ball rolling on gun control—we all know the goal is NO guns, not just no assault rifles. The ultimate sad fact is there are a lot of unbalanced people out there and no cop is going to be able to protect me. I have to protect me. My heart breaks for the families of the people in Connecticut, but I see a presidential administration ready to use that for other purposes, ready to use it to get something progressives have long desired. Cross your fingers they can’t pull it off.

I remember the Luby’s cafeteria murders and the left finally got an assault weapons ban around 94’ that lasted about ten years before being repealed and basically did nothing except confuse law abiding gun owners on what was and what was not legal in that some technical regulatory hoops had to be jumped through to make sure you weren’t in violation. The ban worked out just about as well as another big progressive brain storm, prohibition.
Like Liberty mentioned, the left wants to completely disarm Americans so only the government has guns legally. This is absolutely what Our Founders did not intend because as “subjects”, they lived the oppression from the King and that’s a huge part why the second amendment is second.
The left will take this on in small bites, using the most maligned meme terminology first, “assault weapon”. Then after all “assault weapons” are banned, (the definition of such being subjective) killings with other style guns by bad guys will still occur so they capitalize on that and keep moving down the line of each and every gun design until we’re “safe” from everyone except criminals and dictators. Incrementalism is a creeping corrosion of the biggest enemy of the left, The Constitution.

I remember the original. Mayor Bloomberg does not remember that NYC was occupied by the British Army and Navy, and they were not here to do hurricane relief. He does not remember that american patriots were kidnapped and held by the brits in Brooklyn, and other american prisoners rotted in the holds of those ships. And he wonders why there is a Second Amendment. He is so busy being a salesman for New York that he would rather forget the difference between the blackouts of 1965 and 1977, in case he has any doubts about things going to hell in a handbasket. In 65 nothing happened. In 77 there were mobs of looters. And what got me was it only took minutes before the Takers were out taking stuff from the clothing store, by the armful, and that a cop took a chain from his squad car and pulled the grates off the store so the looters could get in. And this was on Broadway, not some unknown location.
What Bloomberg fails to take into account is that there is a huge difference between between those americans, and the gang bangers. He refers to some “gun culture”. Cute – you can compress a whole lot of american history into two words, and thus completely trivialize it. Frankly I don’t think he cares. Nor does Schumer or Nadler or Feinstein and the list of others now blabbering. In their view the only focus of attention is on what gang bangers are doing, or other murderers. It is a wanton disregard of history. It is a shame because I am quite certain he would rather live in the world of the 65 blackout than the 77 blackout.
