The Democrats have revived the public option. It has no chance of passing in the House -or at least we think it doesn’t, the way things have gone lately I wouldn’t be surprised at anything – but they certainly aren’t going to let the idea rest. They’re billing it as a way to reduce to deficit. That’s laughable.
The public option is back … sort of.
House Democrats on Tuesday introduced the “Public Option Deficit Reduction Act,” which would provide consumers the choice to opt into a government-run health insurance plan in the Obamacare exchanges.
The bill, which almost certainly cannot pass in the Republican-controlled House, is a mostly symbolic effort meant to keep the public option alive as a policy prescription. It is sponsored by Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), who is on the Energy & Commerce health subcommittee, along with Energy & Commerce Ranking Member Henry Waxman (D-CA) and 43 other lawmakers.
“The Public Option Deficit Reduction Act will give health care consumers more choice and lower their premiums,” said Schakowsky. “And, by providing a lower-cost alternative to private insurance, it would put pressure on all insurers to lower their premiums in order to compete.” (Read More)
If they have their way, soon the public option will be the only option. They’ll force private insurers to reduce their rates to the point that they go out of business thanks to all of the coverage mandates. Then, voila, they’ll have achieved their goal.
Oh, and this is the same Jan Schakowsky that thinks doctors should be unionized and the government should keep most of the dollars we earn.

I didn’t vote for Obama and democrats don’t blame me

They certainly are tenacious at trying to infringe on the right of each American to choose for themselves… and it’s always their way or the highway no matter how much public outcry their policies invoke.

You’re telling me to trust in insurance companies and I’m the one who’s ignorant in the way the world works? Yeah, good luck with that denied claim, I’m sure they will be just as cooperative as the banks have been. If you want to skin the argument down to “at least,” then at least we actually have a say in who is and is not making policy in Washington. Last I checked, we don’t get to decide who runs private companies who’s only goal is the bottom line. Too much power in the hands of private companies that provide a need and answer to no one but themselves, can be more dangerouse than any government.

Why in the year 2013 is the definition of the word “option” so confusing to people? It’s just another choice. I thought that was the whole basis of freedom. And if you’re going to be so paranoid that its all going to lead to a big government takeover, then just go and hide in your bomb shelter while the rest of us actually try to evolve in society. Please don’t lose any sleep over the poor insurance companies lowering rates. They are in the business of selling promises, which have an extremely low overhead. They will be just fine, and the American people will be even better.

Keep drinking the Kool Aid, Jason. At least with insurance companies when they deny payment you have someone to appeal to. Who will you appeal to when the government controls everything? You’re obviously quite ignorant about how the world works.

I discredited your line of thought, I didn’t attack you personally. Is there no one on this site that has the ability for intelligent debate? You’d just rather all agree with each other over and over? No wonder why your party is at a standstill. Actually no, it’s regressing.
You guys are not learning much, loss after loss. Generation after generation you are being phased out. Just keep sticking to your guns (intentional pun) and the “Lonley Conservative” will soon be the “Extinct Conservative.”

The Left never gives up. Conservatives have to be alert and keep the phonies in Congress in the corral. None of these people can be trusted. And the answer is simple. They get used to power; they like it, then they love it, and they want to never give it up.
Well, let’s send them a message from the patriotic conservatives: Power to the people, the people who will never give up their rights to a bunch of people who need to learn what it is like to work for a living.

It’s comments like that which disqualify you’re entire party’s credibility. You’re not able to intelligently debate with facts and logic, so instead you resort to inane insults that don’t even make sense.
So I’ll just ask again, what’s wrong with a public OPTION that would actually give the insurance companies some competition and impede their ability to fleece customers of a basic need?
Perhaps this time someone will have the mental capacity to debate instead of throwing out erroneous accusations.

I’ll make it simple for a snarky simpleton like you, Jason. For now, you can walk away from a company and choose another; it’s infinitely more difficult from a government. This is called “competition”. Competition forces improvement in a sector. Monopoly laws prohibit shell games and collusion. A public option is not “competition”. It is a Monopoly. It’s completely unfair because it’s wholly funded with taxpayer dollars competing with no one for existence. This is why single payer will only make costs increase and drive out every other option. There’s no incentive for government to compete because it doesn’t need one. Wake up and smell the toast burning. Why are these concepts so hard for you to grasp?

Again with the immediate insults, the go-to tactic of a true simpleton. Anyway friend, you’re line of thinking is not only antiquated, but both delusional and paranoid. If any of that were true then why are companies like UPS and FedEx able to thrive? Why hasn’t the postal service’s “monopoly” and lower costs put and end to private competition? Why hasn’t Medicare stopped the billions upon billions of dollars from rolling into insurance companies bank accounts. I’ll tell you why, because there’s over 300 million people living in this country. Pleanty of business to go around for everyone. People who are happy with their coverage are not going to switch over to the public option just because its available. The people it will help are those struggling to maintain proper coverage on their middle class incomes. Every time the right dislikes something, which is quite often, they use the same tired “sky is falling, it’s a slippery slope” formula. Everything will lead to the government controlling your life and taking away your guns. What an fearful, exhausting and anti-logical way to live.

You say “Again with the immediate insults” and in the next breath call your target “delusional and paranoid.” Again, why would anyone want to debate you. It’s much more fun to mock you. We’re learning that from your side, idiot.

I was simply discrediting your line of thought, not attacking you personally.
Is there no one on this site that can engage in intelligent debate? You guys are not learning much. Loss after loss, generation after generation you’re being slowly phased out of the populous. “The Lonely Conservative” will eventually become “The Extinct Conservative” if you continue championing the extremist point of view.
