The House passed the Senate’s fiscal cliff bill tonight at about 11:00 PM.
The dramatic vote followed a wild day in which the critical measure was assumed for several hours to be headed for defeat because of widespread Republican objections. The vote was 257 to 167, with 85 Republicans joining with nearly all of the chamber’s Democrats.
It’s a real crap sandwich. There were zero spending cuts and it raises the deficit by $330 billion more than it would have gone up without it. Over ten years it will cost a whopping $4 trillion.

LC, here’s a story unrelated but hope you find interesting.

85 Republicans who will not be in the House two years from now, including Paul Ryan. Why Mr. Ryan would throw away his career is beyond me, but he can no longer be considered a fiscal conservative of any sort, and we must get rid of him, along with Boehner and 83 others. Some will be gone by the end of the week (like David Dreier and Dan Lungren) but many will be back for the 113th Congress.
They will not be back for the 114th. The effort to raise primary challengers must begin immediately.

So Boehner had to depend on the libs to get the bill passed. The 151 patriotic Rep Congressmen deserve to be congratulated; the rest need to be primaried and sent home to help pay for the mess they helped to create.
I am especially disappointed in Paul Ryan. You can’t be fiscally sound and vote for this crap. His chance for big things in 2016 just went out the window.
I now officially consider myself a Conservative only. No more R by my name. This was the last straw. These guys do it over and over again and the Dems just laugh.
Pelosi, Reid, and Obama are probably drinking champagne this morning since they have just gotten the Republicans to become another lib supporter of raising taxes. Vote ‘em all out next time.

Our new problem is that we don’t have a two-party system anymore, just 2 shades of Democrat. Thanks to Boehner and his gang of Rinos the GOP will go the way of the Whigs and the Know Nothings. Boehner must go, if there is to be any hope for real representation in government.

BTW, let’s not forget McConnell’s complicity in creating this putrid piece of crap. He’s just as bad as Boehner.

That’s today’s modern politics. Get some sorry ass bill passed at the last minute thus “saving the day.” In reality they, once again, kick the can.
