President Obama will probably never have to lay a finger on a gun. He and his family are protected by one of the best armed security forces in the world, all at our expense. So what does he care if you can protect your family? That’s not his problem, his motto is “Armed protection for me, but not for thee!” And he’s serious this time. (He was just kidding when he said he would never take your guns away. Just like he was kidding when he said you could keep your health insurance if you like it.)
A working group led by Vice President Biden is seriously considering measures backed by key law enforcement leaders that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, strengthen mental health checks, and stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors, the sources said.
To sell such changes, the White House is developing strategies to work around the National Rifle Association that one source said could include rallying support from Wal-Mart and other gun retailers for measures that would benefit their businesses. White House aides have also been in regular contact with advisers to New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg (I), an outspoken gun-control advocate who could emerge as a powerful surrogate for the Obama administration’s agenda. …
The gun-control push is just one part of an ambitious political agenda that Obama has pledged to pursue after his decisive reelection victory in November, including comprehensive immigration reform, climate-change legislation and long-term deficit reduction. Obama also faces a reshuffling of his Cabinet, and a looming debate over the nation’s debt ceiling that will compete for his time and attention in the coming months.
In addition to potential legislative proposals, Biden’s group has expanded its focus to include measures that would not need congressional approval and could be quickly implemented by executive action, according to interest-group leaders who have discussed options with Biden and key Cabinet secretaries. Possibilities include changes to federal mental-health programs and modernization of gun-tracking efforts by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
“Simply coming up with one or two aspects of it really falls short of the magnitude of the gun issue in the country,” said Chuck Wexler, executive director of the Police Executive Research Forum. (Read More)
Got that? To take care of this issue of “great magnitude”, the plan is to use crony capitalism and market manipulation to get big names on his side and then begin a non-stop campaign of vilifying anyone who disagrees with them. And they’re going to do it all without any input from Congress. Oh, and I’m sure that the ATF is going to do a bang up job (no pun intended) of monitoring our guns, just like they did with Operation Fast and Furious.
What could possibly go wrong?
Update: The point person on this is saying they should not call this “gun control.” That’s so typical of the left, they always come up with new names for what they’re doing to fool people. Unfortunately, people believe them.

Our Founders would call this a line in the sand.

Conservatives need to stand together to fight this clearly unconstitutional idea. The Constitution give us rights that are God-given, they are not something that the President or any elected official, including the illustrious Mr. Bloomberg, has any right to modify. Each of us needs to take this issue seriously and vigorously challenge anything they try to do.
I am particularly concerned about the lack of backbone from so many Republicans, although I think most are RINOs. They must be replaced by real conservatives and Washington, DC lobbyists will fight us all the way.
Any corporation that will go along should be shunned, incluidng the Walmart that I love. Crony capitalism is not the way to do business. It is what Fascists did in Germany.
On a related matter, I was using Twitter today. Not being a computer wizard, I have found it a fun place to voice opinions and communicate with like minded conservatives and Christians. Imagine when I came home tonight after going out to dinner, I found I had been suspended for some apparent violation of their rules. I tried to research this, but of course there is no one but an email to go to at Twitter, which I did and appealed their suspension. I guess it will take several days to get any answers and of course many of my new friends certainly don’t know why I have disappeared into the dark.
Since I was blogging today a lot about gun control and the travesty they seem to be trying to perpetuate, I only hope that this isn’t the reason. And if I have done something else inadvertently, it certainly wasn’t intended. I am passionate about my belief in Christ, the Constitution, and my freedoms and will continue to vigorously defend.
If any of my followers wonder what has happened, I can be reached at my own website, http://www.northfloridawriter.com. I have a blog page on the site and I would love to talk to any of you about this matter or anything else having to do with Christianity, our Constitutional rights, or just the beauty of life in rural America.
And I want to thank the Lonely Conservative for allowing me to voice my opinions on this site and will continue to support you. I know that you will also fight for our rights with me.
Thanks, everyone, and mayGod bless us and keep us in these trying times. And long live the United States of America and her traditions and values. If it isn’t broken, don’t tinker with it. This goes for the President, Michael Bloomberg, and any other poltician who thinks he knows what is better for me than I do for myself.

Except for one uber-lib, I don’t know a single Democrat west of the Mississippi who isn’t a gun owner. They are a huge chunk of those bitter clingers. The old fashioned dems in my own family consider that a big fat line in the sand—they won’t tolerate touching their weapons. This should be interesting. And meanwhile, buy long guns; you do not (yet) have to register them here.

As long as the Republicans control the House of Representatives — and they are pretty much locked in until at least the 2022 elections, thanks to demographics — it’ll never happen. The Republicans will probably gain a few seats in the House in the 2014 elections, and maybe a couple in the Senate, and no Democrat from a marginal district or state who will need some conservative voters to win re-election is going to support this.
