The Russians know what it means to give up guns.
Various armies, such as the Poles, during the Смута (Times of Troubles), or Napoleon, or the Germans even as the Tsarist state collapsed under the weight of WW1 and Wall Street monies, found that holding Russian lands was much much harder than taking them and taking was no easy walk in the park but a blood bath all its own. In holding, one faced an extremely well armed and aggressive population Hell bent on exterminating or driving out the aggressor.
This well armed population was what allowed the various White factions to rise up, no matter how disorganized politically and militarily they were in 1918 and wage a savage civil war against the Reds. It should be noted that many of these armies were armed peasants, villagers, farmers and merchants, protecting their own. If it had not been for Washington’s clandestine support of and for the Reds, history would have gone quite differently.
Moscow fell, for example, not from a lack of weapons to defend it, but from the lying guile of the Reds. Ten thousand Reds took Moscow and were opposed only by some few hundreds of officer cadets and their instructors. Even then the battle was fierce and losses high. However, in the city alone, at that time, lived over 30,000 military officers (both active and retired), all with their own issued weapons and ammunition, plus tens of thousands of other citizens who were armed. The Soviets promised to leave them all alone if they did not intervene. They did not and for that were asked afterwards to come register themselves and their weapons: where they were promptly shot.
Of course being savages, murderers and liars does not mean being stupid and the Reds learned from their Civil War experience. One of the first things they did was to disarm the population. From that point, mass repression, mass arrests, mass deportations, mass murder, mass starvation were all a safe game for the powers that were. The worst they had to fear was a pitchfork in the guts or a knife in the back or the occasional hunting rifle. Not much for soldiers.
To this day, with the Soviet Union now dead 21 years, with a whole generation born and raised to adulthood without the SU, we are still denied our basic and traditional rights to self defense.
Update: Expose the Media linked – thanks!

To the Obama Administration, a fellow, law abiding American with a Constitutional right is more of an unacceptable threat than Islamic madmen with dreams of nuclear genocide.

Darn – you beat me to it ! I was going to send a link.
Well, if the confiscationists want to be our enemy, it is hard to think of anything more silly, or devoid of common sense. Do they really want millions of americans wondering what kinds of vulnerabilities they have ? I doubt that anything would be overlooked. They seem to think that Obama is going to order the army to disarm americans. I have a clue for them – they should ask themselves why the Russian army did not go against the Russian people. hmmmmm.

OBTW, LC; Pravda Op-Ed seems to be hitting it out of the park lately. This was a column you posted a few weeks ago:
http://lonelyconservative.com/2012/11/oh-great-now-pravda-mocks-dumb-american-voters-who-voted-for-communist-obama/
When compared to the LMSM in the U.S., Pravda is fast becoming the new “go to” American conservative media.

I was just looking at some comments to Charles Blow’s blabber about guns at the NY Times. One nit was saying that ‘they say they require these firearms to fight tyranny – but what good would it do against drones, nukes, F22 and tanks.’
Maybe I can spell it out for this birdbrain. The AR is the civilian version of the STANDARD SIDEARM. In WW2 it was the M1. In WW1 it was the Springfield. Lots of guys figure – “if it is good enuf for the army, it is good enuf for me” – ie tested and reliable, and all the problems are well known. So, if there is a Draft, then one is familiar with it. That is just american tradition. So back around the Gulf war I went to the local range and talked with guys who know about it, and got to fire a few rounds. Nice balance, but freakin expensive, and frankly, not all that accurate.
I have heard debates where many say the AK47 is a lot more reliable, or less finicky.
The upshot is that it has nothing to do with being somehow desirable because it looks mean. It is simply a matter that it is THE STANDARD.

Isn’t it interesting that the Russians are smarter than we are about things in the USA. As Lonely Cons. says, however, it makes sense, because they have suffered longer than anyone over the years. Oh, there might have been other peoples with more deaths, but never for the length of time that the Russians suffered.
The rest of the world is watching to see what we do. Make no mistake, Obama has no intention of stopping with any kind of gun limits, he ultimately wants to take our gun rights away in toto. He probably is waiting to appoint a few more Marxist leaning justices to swing the balance to tyranny. Don’t believe me? Remember, Hitler did everything legally. He took his time to stack every part of government and then, when he had his people where he wanted them, murder and fear and a horrible World War resulted.
Think about one other thing. Obama has never told the truth so far. The only thing he does is talk and lie until the gutless politicians take their eye off the ball. Make no mistake, if we don’t stand up now for freedom, we never will. And if we don’t, the dream that was America, once lost, will never return.

American people should be flabbergasted that drones are allowed to fly here over the population and not just the borders. When I heard they were dropping practice bombs at Fort Drum, cringe. We personally saw seven drones of varying size flying during the spring, summer, and early fall while visiting different cemeteries, swimming, and camping last year.

Yes, that seems to be the lefty canned response/comment these days. I’ve seen it over 50 times in the last couple of weeks. So sick and tired of these idiots.
