Moving to Texas sounds like a better idea every day. Heck, the Attorney General there is inviting freedom loving New Yorkers to move to his state.
(Greg) Abbott, a possible candidate for governor of Texas in next year’s election, used campaign money to buy ads on websites of news organizations in New York City and Albany.
One ad says in classic Western script: “WANTED: Law abiding New York gun owners seeking lower taxes and greater opportunities.”
Clicking on the ad leads to a Facebook page touting the virtues of Texas, including the fact that the state has no income tax so “you’ll be able to keep more of what you earn and use that extra money to buy more ammo.”
Abbott told Reuters the ads are a “way to tweak our liberal friends up in the Northeast.”
“It is tongue in cheek, but there is a deeper message here,” he said. “Texas really does stand as the last bastion of ultimate freedom in this country. Over the last decade, more than 4 million people moved to this state, and one reason is freedom and one reason is economic opportunity.” (Read More)
Abbott also said he will also challenge any gun ban Congress may pass. Good for him.
The only problem is relocating a business based on an existing customer base. Sigh. Maybe some day…
Update: Linked by The Pirate’s Cove – thanks!

The first thing that comes to mind when I hear that invitation is the question; “Are there any Freedom Loving New Yorkers?”. If you look at who they have voted for locally and nationally, and the contempt that they have for the concept of Free Americans, and I have to have doubts.

There are, we’re just outnumbered. After the last election you could easily ask “Are there any freedom loving Americans?”

This is a wonderful idea as long as these folks are in fact freedom lovers and not people who just want to move NY south. Here in Florida, we’ve had many new residents from the Northeast who, once relocated, want to place NY laws o in place here to provider NY style expensive “services’ that we don’t want or need. That’s particularly true in S. Florida.
Now I’m not suggesting that we are not be free to move anywhere. I am merely stating that if you really want to be free, and that is the reason for your move, then you really won’t want to impose Blue State policies on those in Red States. And, if freedom is our goal, then you also won’t want excessive “government services” that are expensive and usually aren’t very effective anyway.
If you want to be free, you have to assume personal responsibility for your lives. Freedom isn’t free.

If you move to Texas, don’t make it Austin. You will think you are still in New York. Go to Waco or Lubbock, or San Angelo. Don’t go to San Antonio unless you speak Espanol.

The Canadian Parliament scrapped the universal gun registry as unworkable April 4, 2012. Canada is advertising to American workers and Veterans to come to Canada to work in the energy industries. I remember when they recruited workers from the U.S. back in the latter Seventies.

Too hot for me in Texas. I’ve lived in four other states. New York is where my bones will rest. I say stay and put up a good fight. And get people in office worth a damn. That’s how things are done. If the forefathers spent 8 years fighting the Revolution, and sacrifice all they had, we can also sacrifice something to better our future here in this state. I love NY. And I’m doing my part to make it better.

I agree with you. I live in rural Butler Co. North of Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. Years ago when taxes got too high there was a mass exodus from Pittsburgh to rural Butler county. Great for the economy. BUT, what did those people bring? All their expensive desires. They want swimming pools, ball fields, public water and sewage systems. They want city convenience in the country. Problem? They tax the long-time residents out of our homes.
