Harry Reid forced a vote on the nomination of Chuck Hagel and failed. Republicans told him that they wanted more time. Maybe if President Obama hadn’t gone out and found the absolute worst person for this nomination the process wouldn’t be so contentious. It’s not like Senate RINOs don’t routinely do the Democrats’ bidding.
Senate Republicans blocked Chuck Hagel’s nomination as secretary of defense in a filibuster on Thursday, demanding more time to study their former colleague’s speeches and finances after he left the Senate in 2008.
It is the first time a national security nominee has ever faced a filibuster.
The 58-40 vote, with 1 present, came after Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) announced a few hours earlier that the Senate would push ahead, despite calls by several Republican senators to delay the vote until at least Feb. 25, when the Senate is scheduled to return from its Presidents Day recess. @lonelycon don’t worry, they’ll cave! That’s why the Republican party has become so weak, not one of them will take the chance to hold fast.

The problem is that we have a few Senators, such as Collins and Hatch, who oppose Hagel’s nomination, but they feel its wrong to dictate the President’s cabinet and to obstruct….. I dont hold their opinions against them, but its unhelpful.

The senate must send out a strong message, no more inept and unqualified jobs handed out to rich traitors!

This is the kind of obstructionist nonsense that makes the right look so bad in the eyes of the public. Republicans are saying they want to hold off until they receive more info on Benghazi. How in the world are those two things related? Hagel is a Vietnam Vet, and would the be first Sec. of Defense that actually served in combat. It sure would be nice to have someone in that position that actually knows what a soldier life is worth and what they go through on a daily basis, instead of treating them like video game characters and sending them into countries that never attacked us or had any weapons of mass destruction.
Republican will just throw their arms up any anyone or anything Obama proposes, if Hagel was nominated by Bush, the right would have zero issue with him.

Now that Kennedy is dead, Orrin Hatch can start writing his poems, odes, songs, and tributes to Hagel. He already began by voting “present” on his friend yesterday. Even Collins voted “no”
