A bi-partisan group of Senators, led by Chuck Schumer, is working on gun control legislation that would require background checks on all private sales of guns. I’m especially disappointed to see Tom Coburn is involved.
The talks, led by two Democrats and two Republicans, are expected to earn more GOP support in the coming days and likely enough to move the bill through the Senate, according to senior aides of both parties who were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.
“These negotiations are challenging, as you’d expect on an issue as complicated as guns,” the chief negotiator, Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), said in a statement Saturday. “But all of the senators involved are approaching this in good faith. We are all serious about wanting to get something done, and we are going to keep trying.”
Resolution of whether to keep records of private sales is key to earning the support of one of the Republicans involved in the talks, Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn, who has a solid A-rating from the influential National Rifle Association and could provide political cover for lawmakers of both parties who are wary of supporting the plan.
Coburn has declined to comment on the talks, saying recently that “I don’t negotiate through the press.” …
Coburn and Schumer are joined in their talks by Sens. Joe Manchin III (D-W.Va.) and Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), while aides in both parties anticipate that Republican Sens. John McCain (Ariz.), Jeff Flake (Ariz.) and Susan Collins (Maine) could also endorse the plan soon. McCain and Collins have said they generally support legislation expanding background checks, while a Flake spokeswoman said Saturday that he is still reviewing the proposal. (Read More)
Why would any Republican work with Schumer? And why would any of them think criminals who commit crimes with guns are going to comply with these stupid laws?

Manufacturers should refuse to sell any Ammo to the Feds or to the State of NY. Memo to Schumer – please RESIGN. Or just go back to France.

I used to like Tom Coburn but lately he seems to be putting bipartisanship ahead of common sense. As for me, and this is just my opinion, any Republican who works a deal with Chuck Schumer is a complete fool. Schumer is like the ambulance chaser who doesn’t wait for the accident before he shows up at the hospital. And the Republicans wonder why the public doesn’t believe them and support them.
Gun control is, to me, a principal issue impacting whether or not we really will follow the Constituttion. Any action to lessen individual freedom in this area is one step closer to Obama’s (and Schumer’s goal): elimination of private citizen gun ownership. And if guns go, well, there goes freedom of speech, freedom of religion and everything else. God help our Republic.

We don’t need another tiny committee to think for the rest of us. Federal gun laws on the books already are not being enforced. Weapons trafficking trade is already illegal. BenghaziØ distributed weapons to drug cartels, MB and Qaeda affiliates. Did he give the terrorists a background check or register them?

“Universal” registration means the people who will not commit a crime register while terrorists, thugs, criminals, gang-bangers, low-lifes and degenerates don’t have to because they don’t obey any law anyway. If you register your gun you are a fool. You will be on a list of easy-pickings.
