Progressives in the United States love the health care model of the United Kingdom. They love it so much they turn the other way when news comes out about long waiting lists and patients being starved to death. Then again, maybe they’re paying full attention, and think of those things as features, rather than bugs. Here’s one more they’ll probably favor for us in the United States – having our doctors turn our personal information over to the government.
GPs are to be forced to hand over confidential records on all their patients’ drinking habits, waist sizes and illnesses.
The files will be stored in a giant information bank that privacy campaigners say represents the ‘biggest data grab in NHS history’.
They warned the move would end patient confidentiality and hand personal information to third parties.
The data includes weight, cholesterol levels, body mass index, pulse rate, family health history, alcohol consumption and smoking status.
Diagnosis of everything from cancer to heart disease to mental illness would be covered. Family doctors will have to pass on dates of birth, postcodes and NHS numbers.
You may as well take the time to read the whole thing, seeing that this is our future.
I suppose you might want to start lying to your doctor, at least about those things you can still lie about. It’s hard to hide your cholesterol levels and weight. But you should really think about the things you tell your doctor. The Obama administration is already allowing insurance companies to gouge smokers, maybe you’re next and you just don’t know it. Remember, Obamacare also includes provisions for putting medical records online. Why do you think that is? Do you really believe it’s for your benefit?
Update: Linked by Sentry Journal and Daily Pundit – thanks! Also, Daily Pundit points out how the government is already accessing our medical records.

This is just what the Progressives are after. They want to know everything about you and then they can control you. They will use the doctor as the Gestapo to find out what they want to know. And, frankly, many doctors will probably quit practicing, leaving the Dr. Mangaley’s to do their dirty work.
Use your head and think about it. If you don’t follow Michelle’s diet standard? Treatment denied. If you occasionally drive to fast? Treatment denied. God forbid if you drink or smoke? Treatment denied. All they while holding an insurance policy that you pay for while they have no intention of honoring it with all the swiss cheese holes in it.
At the same time, the political elite doing the same things will have unlimited coverage. And there won’t be a darn think you can do about it.
So conservatives in DC always talking about what you are gonna do, what is it? Are you gonna fight or continue to cave? it’s that simple.

AlterNet is now advocating that Relationships can be “saved” by taking Oxytocin and MDMA – which they call ‘love drugs’ – oh, and do it for the kids. Oh, and this is advice from an Ethicist.
so I suppose that would be of interest to a Govt Database and anyone with access to it. Sounds like Brave New World or 1984 to me.
Enough of the ‘hippies gone wild’ at Alternet.
At least the NY Review of Books had a look at Oliver Stone and Peter Kuznick blabber about the history of the USA. They say Henry Wallace was a true hero. Actually he was a dupe for Stalin. And a nudnik.

The only well known progressives I know of who tout the NHS as a role model are Krugman and Berwick.
Most progressives look northward to the Canadian single-payer system.
Criticizing the NHS is a bit of a strawman, since no Dems in Congress were ever seriously proposing that kind of system for the U.S.
In the U.S., the NHS most closely resembles the network of Veterans Administration hospitals.

Our political “leaders” love to mimic all the failed policies of Europe. Their health care programs have been great, gun-control, etc. How do we continue to elect these turd buckets? Our country has become a disgrace.
