Ann Coulter appeared with John Stossel at a libertarian student event and she really held her own. I don’t get why libertarians are so obsessed with legalizing pot and gay marriage when there are so many colossal problems plaguing our nation. The government is intruding on more and more aspects of our lives, regulating everything, spending money like there’s no tomorrow, but all these kids wanted to talk about were gay marriage and pot. It makes no sense. But at least the libertarians were civil and polite, unlike so many liberals.

I find myself in agreement with the libertarians on many issues but not on legalization of drugs. For one thing, the stats on child abuse are overwhelming when drug use is rolled in. Secondly, what do the libertarians think is going to happen if drugs were legalized? Of course the government “for our safety” will step in and administrate, tax and regulate creating far more government programs and departments with police forces for such then there are now. They’re so short sighted about that.

I do not get why Libertarians want to re-define marriage. They just cave in to the simplistic ‘if straights can get married why not gays’ nonsense, as if it doesn’t make any difference.

I agree with many libertarians, but often they are better at pointing out problems than presenting viable solutions. Despite the horrors of the war on drugs (and they are numerous), I haven’t heard of any drug legalization schemes that are likely to be accepted by a majority of Americans. It would probably take the support of a vast majority for anything significant to happen on that front. And no I don’t agree with them on gay marriage, which applies to so few people it is like a rounding error.
Coulter is indeed a happy warrior.
