What do you think? Will Benghazi be President Obama’s downfall? A few people think so.

Michael Walsh:

No matter what happens with Darrell Issa’s congressional committee meetings this week, we are witnessing thebeginning of the end of the Obama administration, and the cause is Benghazi. It’s impossible to overestimate the blowback that has been gathering steam for the past seven months, now about to erupt with full force. Few reputations will emerge unscathed, Obama’s presidency will be crippled, Hillary Clinton‘s 2016  candidacy will be destroyed — and perhaps some new heroes will be born. …

That’s because, right from the jump, the administration has been lying through its teeth about what happened on the night of Sept. 11, 2012 — the eleventh anniversary of 9/11, as it happens. It transparently lied about the Mohammad video, threw the scapegoated filmmaker in jail (where, last time I looked, he still is), and  convened a bogus “accountability” board to whitewash the whole damn thing so as not to disrupt the precious Narrative that Osama was dead and al-Qaeda was on the run.

It was all a lie, of course, and some of us knew it at the time. I wrote about it repeatedly on the Post’s Op-Ed page: you can find examples herehere and here. In this case, however, what happened in Benghazi, Foggy Bottom, the White House, and the Obama re-election campaign headquarters in Chicago was (as the saying going) worse than a crime: it was a blunder. And that blunder may now bring down the man who never should have been president in the first place, for grotesque dereliction of his duty as commander-in-chief: (Read More)

Mike Huckabee:

“I believe that before it’s all over, this president will not fill out his full term. I know that puts me on a limb,” the former Arkansas governor said on “The Mike Huckabee Show.” “But this is not minor. It wasn’t minor when Richard Nixon lied to the American people and worked with those in his administration to cover-up what really happened in Watergate. But, I remind you — as bad as Watergate was, because it broke the trust between the president and the people, no one died. This is more serious because four Americans did in fact die.”

Huckabee, however, said his predication about Obama “will not happen” if the Democrats seize control of the House and retain control of the Senate next year.

“If they’re able to get control of the House and maintain the Senate, this will not happen because they won’t let it happen,” Huckabee said. (Read More)

I’ve heard similar things from others as well. I don’t know. The Democrats are going to do all they can to protect not only Obama, but also Hillary Clinton. The media might have to cover this, but it will be in the way they normally cover things they would rather ignore – short clips and no leading headlines, with only a few exceptions.

This is the president who was reelected with unemployment at about 8%, and a record number of Americans out of the work force or working part time. Benghazi was big news when it happened, and despite the administration’s talking points, it was still horrific. Anyone paying attention was appalled when that obscure video maker was hauled off in handcuffs. And when was the last time American diplomats were murdered by terrorists on what is technically American soil?

Don’t get me wrong, I think he needs to be held accountable. So does Hillary Clinton. The problem is we have such an ignorant, dumbed-down electorate I don’t know if it’s going to happen. I hope it does, not that I relish the thought of a President Joe Biden.

One thing I can say is that Darryl Issa deserves props for sticking to this and not letting it go. Maybe I’m wrong and people will be outraged.
