Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has been speaking on the Senate floor, without sitting down, for over 18 hours now. He began Tuesday at 2:41 PM, and it’s now 9:00 AM on Wednesday and he’s still going strong. He doesn’t even look that tired. He received support from fellow Republican Senators Lee, Paul, Rubio, Roberts, Enzi, Inhofe, Vitter and Sessions. There were a few others, but most Republicans sat it out. Senator Dick Durbin, a Democrat, asked a question.
Technically this isn’t a filibuster because Cruz will have to yield the floor this afternoon when the Senate votes. But his effort to #MakeDCListen and defund Obamacare is appreciated.
Cruz just quoted Ashton Cutcher, who recently delivered a speech about the importance of work. Cruz made the point that under Obamacare entry level jobs will be part time jobs. He then quoted Ayn Rand from Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead. That’s sure to set off his liberal detractors.
Update: A little while ago Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) asked why President Obama isn’t signing up for Obamacare. Good question.
