House Republicans are (surprisingly) not backing down on the Obamacare/continuing resolution fight. Unfortunately, neither is Harry Reid. The House has a new bill funding government and delaying the implementation of Obamacare for one year. They also have a bill that will fund the military in the event of a shut down. Reid says the Senate will reject the bill.
Senate Democrats will reject the House government funding bill on the eve of a shutdown, seeking to pressure House Republicans to approve their plan to keep government running past Tuesday.
The House vote on Saturday on a bill to fund the government through Dec. 15, delay Obamacare’s individual mandate and repeal the medical device tax is “pointless,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who added in a blistering statement that “the American people will not be extorted by Tea Party anarchists.”
That rhetoric is getting so tiresome, but I guess it’s all they’ve got. Also tiresome are liberal writers and pundits like James Fallows who defend them.
Fallows would have us believe that “what is going on” is not a routine exercise in budget brinksmanship — something to which we have become accustomed as a ritual of divided government — but rather an “internal crisis” exclusive to the Republican Party.
In other words, Democrats are not responsible for anything, Democrats have no obligation to consider the views of the Republican majority in the House of Representatives, the duly elected representatives of taxpaying citizens, because . . . well, why, really? (Read More)
