Good News For Mia Love – Rep. Jim Matheson Won’t Seek Reelection

Rep. Jim Matheson (D-Utah) announced on facebook that he will not seek reelection in 2014. “When I launched my first campaign in 1999, I knew that the arc of my public service would have many chapters. It has been a tremendous privilege to serve the people of Utah during my time in the United States House of Representatives, but my time in the House should not be the sum total of my service. Today, I am announcing that I will not seek reelection to the House of Representatives,” Matheson wrote.

Utah 4 was already a competitive seat, it’s an R+16 district. Matheson’s been able to win because he’s more conservative than most Democrats and his father is a former governor so he’s got name recognition. The lefties are already lamenting on his facebook page that Mia Love will likely win the seat, with one saying “You were our only defense against Mia Love.” And Dave Weigel has pretty much declared her the winner, “Congress, to welcome a black, female, Mormon Republican next year.

Larry Sabato has moved UT-4 from “likely Democrat” to “leans Republican.”

The Democrats must be getting worried. Matheson’s throwing in the towel and he didn’t even vote for the Obamacare debacle.
