Leading Cause Of Disability For SSDI Recipients Is Mental Disorder

CNS News reports that the leading cause of disability for SSDI recipients is “mental disorder.” So either there are many more crazy people in the United States than we thought, or the government is just making it to easy to get on the dole. While it does seem that a majority of Americans have lost their minds after the last election, it’s still quite a stretch to believe this many people have disabling mental disorders.

“Mental disorder” is the leading “diagnostic group” for disabled people receiving federal disability insurance benefits, with 35.5 percent of all disabled beneficiaries having such a disorder, according to the latest Annual Statistical Report on the Social Security Disability Insurance Program.

The report provides a statistical profile of the 10,088,739 disabled beneficiaries who were receiving federal disability benefits as of December 2012. (Read More)
