On one of the Sunday shows Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said that if Republicans don’t trust President Obama on immigration reform that they should just pass it anyway and make it take effect after Obama is out of office. Never mind that Democrats in 2016 are expected to run to the left of Obama, and the next president could actually be worse than he is.
Michael Steel, a spokesman for Mr. Boehner, shot the idea down. “The suggestion is entirely impractical, since it would totally eliminate the president’s incentive to enforce immigration law for the remainder of his term,” he said Sunday.
A White House official declined to comment on Mr. Schumer’s idea, other than to say, “We’ve laid out our principles and we are now stepping back to see what, if anything, the House puts forward.” (Read More)
