In its “America the Beautiful” Super Bowl ad Coca Cola kind of watered down what it means to be American. We all understand that the United States is the great “melting pot” but what makes it great is that immigrants who have come here assimilated into our culture. Part of the assimilation process is learning English, the language of the United States, it unifies us. What’s the point of celebrating our differences?
Former Congressman Col. Allen West wasn’t too impressed with the ad, either.
I am quite sure there may some who appreciated the commercial, but Coca Cola missed the mark in my opinion. If we cannot be proud enough as a country to sing “American the Beautiful” in English in a commercial during the Super Bowl, by a company as American as they come — doggone we are on the road to perdition. …
Twitter and facebook erupted with criticism of the ad, but it also had its defenders. What do you think?
