Gee whiz, the Crimean people sure have had a massive change of heart in just a few weeks. Yesterday a whopping 97% voted to sever ties with Ukraine and join Russia. But just last month a poll found only 41% favored joining the
[T]hose polls have shifted dramatically since February, when a poll showed that just 41 percent of Crimeans thought “Ukraine and Russia must unite into a single state.” Another December pollshowed that 56 percent of those polled did not want to join Russia.
As of 2001, the Crimean population was 58.5 percent ethnic Russian.
In related news, this morning President Obama announced some weak sanctions against Russia and a few Russian officials.
