Who Will The Thought Police Come After Next?

In the wake of Donald Sterling’s private racist thoughts being made public The Syracuse Post Standard believes that the NLF should “take a lesson” from the NBA and force the Washington Redskins to change its name. A contributor on CNN suggested that the thought police go after Rich DeVos, an NBA owner in Orlando. His crime? He’s for traditional marriage. Rush Limbaugh talked about it yesterday.

Oh, she’s just basically saying that the next target that they’re gonna try to take out is Rich DeVos.  Rachel Nichols, yeah, we’re gonna go get Rich DeVos next because he doesn’t believe in gay marriage and there’s a lot of people who think that’s a problem.  So Rich DeVos, Mr. Amway — he happens to be one of the greatest patriots this country has ever seen.  Rich DeVos happens to have donated and supported some of the greatest causes in this country, but it doesn’t matter ’cause he doesn’t have his mind right on gay marriage.

So we just heard it, the next target.  This is brazen, folks.  This is fascism.  You want to know what it is?  This is it.  A lot of people have a problem with that.  He thinks gay people should stop asking for special treatment because they want to get married.  There are gonna be more and more owners that we’re gonna be looking at, too.  They better be careful.

Everybody ought to be careful, especially in the age of social media and cell phones. Just the other day I read somewhere that the government is going to be trolling through social media looking for offensive or racial comments. What are they going to do when they find those comments?

Oh, but I should mention that not everybody needs to worry. Rush Limbaugh again:

There are at least two speech codes, and if you don’t know which one applies to you, you are gonna be the next Donald Sterling.  I mean, there are certain things minorities can say that you can’t if you’re not a minority. And there’s less and less that the so-called majority can say.

You know, the speech codes, permissible speech is dwindling for those who are said to be non-minority by a majority.  The speech code for minority is wide open and expanding. And you better realize which one applies to you, otherwise you are gonna have the same thing happen to you that happened to Sterling.  I’ve got two media people that have said that.  That’s not my idea. Something else to keep in mind is that Sterling was a known racist but the NAACP had given him awards anyway, and was about to give him another one. Al Sharpton was going to share the stage with him. Sterling didn’t face any wrath until his private comments were made public. But we aren’t hearing much about that.

Anyway, watch what you say, you could be next.
