Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner spends a great deal of time begging the state and federal government for money. Water main breaks happen almost every day, just yesterday there were two breaks that shut down the Civic Center and left some city residents without water. The city is so broke the county had to step in and pay for paving that the city should have paid for. According to USA.com “The Syracuse crime rate is much higher than the New York average crime rate and is much higher than the national average crime rate.” In 2012 Moody’s downgraded the city after the mayor made inquiries into the possibility of bankruptcy.
In short, Syracuse has a lot of problems, so it’s kind of odd that Mayor Miner sent a letter to President Obama welcoming his illegal immigrants to Syracuse.
Miner today said in her letter that “the entire Syracuse community” wants to help with the humanitarian crisis that has arisen as thousands of unaccompanied minors have crossed the U.S. border from Central America. “Only terror could force a child to leave home and walk hundreds of miles to a strange place,” Miner wrote.
Only terror, or a US president sending loud and clear signals that our borders are open and once they enter the country they’ll be given “permisos” allowing them to stay.
I wonder if any of those children Miner is welcoming to Syracuse are members of the MS13 gang, or have diseases that can be spread to the rest of the community. I wonder if Miner really cares. She probably thinks she’ll get some federal money out of the deal. Something tells me residents of the suburbs in the county will end up picking up the tab.
If any of you are in this area, there will be a protest tomorrow (Friday) from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the corner of Grant and Court St. Syracuse residents who are against this might want to show up if for no other reason than to send a message that Miner isn’t speaking for the “entire Syracuse community.”
