The topic of health care in the 2008 U.S. presidential election is one that is high on the minds of Americans. However, while most people are well aware of the immense challenges facing our health system (rising costs of medical care, malpractice, high prescription drug costs, medical bankruptcies, employers dropping coverage, 47 million uninsured Americans, etc.), they have less understanding of the specific solutions proposed by Senators Obama and McCain.

We invite you to write a post about the topic of health care in ’08. There are clear policy differences between the Obama and McCain plans, who come from two differing philosophies on health care reform.

“HealthDecision ’08: Obama and McCain on Health Care” is an initiative by HealthCare.com (http://www.healthcare.com) to help potential voters understand each candidate’s position. It is an objective comparison of the two platforms, and provides analysis as to the strengths and weaknesses of each. Most importantly, HealthDecision ’08 provides an interactive voting tool that allows users to “vote” for a preferred plan. HealthDecision can be accessed at http://decision.healthcare.com/obama-mccain/.

HealthDecision ’08 will provide you with much of the primary research with which to form a post. In addition, we provide you with links to third-party election coverage from Health08.org, NPR, The New England Journal of Medicine, NY Times, National Journal, U.S. News, WebMD and many other sites, that may serve as supplemental information sources.

I hope you’ll join us in our effort to raise voter understanding on this very important issue. We hope that you will use our information, and also link your readers to our site in order to have their voices heard.

Lastly, if you’re interested in posting real-time results of the HealthDecision ’08 poll, please reply to this email for instructions on embedded our widget onto your blog.

    Thank you.

Tim D-Conservatives are far more generous than liberals. We give to charities and churches. They are much more efficient at helping people than the federal government will ever be. We believe in giving a hand up not a hand out. The welfare/entitlement system promotes dependency. I would prefer to be poor and independent than to be poor and dependent on the government. Look where the liberal good intentions of giving mortgages and credit to people who can’t afford it got us! Have you not watched the news lately? Where do you think this all started? Look up the Community Reinvestment Act. Read some of my old posts. Politicians and their cronies distorted and abused the capitalist system and now we all are paying the price. Your solution is just more taxation. How do you decide who is needy and who isn’t? Who makes that call? If you people have your way I will quit. I will get a job as a waitress and earn only what I need for the bare essentials of my family. I refuse to be a slave to you or anybody else.

    LonelyConservative,

I just found your site. Very cool. I agree 100% with your sentiments. Sarah Palin rocks, btw.

As for this “citizen of the world” malarkey, that is code word for socialism, which is code word for indentured servitude.

I just wish I could go back in time and speak with George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, lol. I’d love their take on the current state of affairs.

Oh yeah, and you can tell I am 100% confident in my beliefs because I use my real name on here. No need to hide behind a false one, or a nickname. That’s for the spineless.

Being poor is a state of mind, being broke is just a temporary inconvenience for anyone willing and able to work. There is already assistance for those unable to work thru SS, SSI Medicare and medicaid. Neighbors, churches, family and friends help those who need a hand up…But hand outs that become a way of life is not something I want to pay for.

I found your site today and I just want to thank you. It is so nice to find someone else who is in their “right” mind. My only thought, I don’t think you will be “lonely” for long. There are too many of us out there who share your thoughts. I work among a large number of liberals and have to quite often avoid being drawn into their idiotic discussions/arguements for fear of completely losing my sanity. You cannot have a discussion with these people without them turning it into an all out full blown heated arguement.

      What’s wrong with heated arguments?

Lately, it gives me a chance to weed out some people I thought were friends. I want people to tell me exactly what they feel. I always want them to expose themselves for what they are and what they stand for. I’m getting too old to play games and waste time. I have friends who are Dems, but they know exactly how I feel. I’m amazed they’ve let the far left hijack their party. I’m happy to say that some of them have begun fighting back. Some others have left the party.

Picking libs off is easier than shooting fish in a barrel. The truth will set you free.

This is war. Not a heated argument. I’m speaking literally, of course….but if and when push comes to shove, which it may, I’m ready for it.

Great site. I’ll come back often and spread the word. I think Breitbart’s link will help you, big time!

1st Dude – I also hope Obama succeeds, unfortunately, we now have undivided government. There is no opposition. I happen to be a realist. George Bush did many things that I disagree with but he is a good man. The only reason he “split this country in half” is people like Mr. Obama and members of the media were on a crusade against him.

As far as McCain and Palin, the loss is on John McCain. The fact that Palin couldn’t save him is irrelevant. Even without the media’s obnoxious treatment of her, he was doomed from the outset.

May I also offer you some personal advice – a typo here and there is normal but your really should check your spelling. If so, in the future your comments will be taken more seriously.

Anyhoo, regardless of our disagreements thanks for coming around!

What a breath of fresh air after this weeks Obamafest. I find if difficult to believe that people are buying into this socialism. Where did this lack of understanding begin?
Educated individuals (?) believing that we are going to be better off? Than who? Mexico?

Our standard of living is going to plummet. I honestly hope Obama succeeds because
the alternative is not pleasant for us or our children..

Jblack-I’m not convinced people bought into socialism. They didn’t hear about alot of it. He said he was going to lower taxes for 95% of Americans. The average American doesn’t take the time to research the issues. If they did, we may have seen a different result. Heck, we may have had different candidates in the general election. I hope Obama succeeds as long as he doesn’t succeed at turning us into a socialist country. In that case, the freedom and liberty we love will be lost. Thanks for visiting!

Thanks for posting the videos of Sean Hannity’s interview of Rush Limbaugh–that’s how I found your site. I wish I was a lonely conservative. I’m more of a depressed conservative–I fight despair daily when I learn what a government that’s allegedly for the people, etc., is doing to its people. There is no question in my mind that we’re headed for socialism and have been for the last 70 years or so. Rush has said that if our government passes national healthcare, it’s over. If the people oppose nat’l healthcare with all the energy and verve which defeated Hillary healthcare and the immigration amnesty bill, then the USA will hold off socialism a little longer. But the day will come when we’ll all live in the once-great United States in full-fledged socialism, and there’ll be no turning back.

You have got to be kidding. You are a joke. Palin is anti-woman, anti-Semitic, anti-Gay, anti-Hispanic, and anti-Black.Now white racist like yourself are starting rumors and lies. Socialism and Communism is better than the damn racism we had to live under. RepubliKlans are cowards. Mention racism and you mention a fake ideal like reverse racism. They could have used you in Germany as a Holocaust denier.Blacks are 12% of the population and white racist like yourselves are showing the world how dumb you are. “The new N-word in Socialist and Communist” on the heels of “They could have used you in Germany as a Holocaust denier.” Do you even know what the full name of the Nazi Party was?

“You could go to Gretawire and post. They put up jokes about killing the President EVERY DAMN DAY.” There are hypocritical fools of every persuasion.

“A black man that speaks well is a criminal, only to a racist like you.” Evidently you’re not listening to his words. Traitors would “fundamentally change” the Constitution so as to build their own power (http://www.worldnetdaily.com/?pageId=79225).

“Palin is anti-woman, anti-Semitic, anti-Gay, anti-Hispanic, and anti-Black.Now white racist like yourself are starting rumors and lies.” Wait wait wait, WHO is spreading lies? Evidently you believe that raising children is anti-woman? Keeping drug cartel violence out of America or abiding existing law is anti-Hispanic? I would think that initiators of programs that keep “Blacks” in poverty would be considered “anti-Black”?

“Mention racism and you mention a fake ideal like reverse racism.” Indeed you are showing it to be very real.

Kid Funkadelic , you “are showing the world how dumb you are.” But it may not be your fault, your Econ 101 and American History teachers were probably produced by the failing systems we call “public school.”

I am a conservative Catholic and am also a fiscal and social conservative. My grandmother came to the USA legally and no one in my family ever received welfare, WIC or any of the other entitlements lazy, abusers of the system receive. Oh, and yes , I have several advanced degrees and my family is Latino and we all speak English as well!!! English should be the official language of the USA and I don’t want illegal aliens here destroying my country and living off of me and others who get up to go to work ( I get up at 5:30). Although the Catholic church supports these illegal aliens I don’t and don’t donate to any appeals regarding this. There are only 2 Abrahamic faiths and those are the standards by which which we live in this country…not Socialist , sharia law!!! I am also vegan. Keep up the good work!

I’m seventy-one now and have to say I don’t have any statist friends anymore. If I couldn’t change their minds, I dropped them as friends.

In just a few comments above addressed to you, you can see the hatred of the statists (by whom I mean international socialists or Communists, national socialists or Nazis, Liberals, Progressives, Greens, Democrats, “moderate” Republicans, ad infinitum). I think we’ll experience a great deal of violence before the statists are finally defeated and our original republican form of constitutional government restored to us.

Karen. Don’t let the libs get you down. There is a momentum building out across our great country and it is only going to get larger. Quietly but forcefully people are getting fed up and joining forces in the forum of Tea Parties. There have been large ones and small ones and they were the early, relatively unpublicized ones (FOXNEWS excepted,as always). April 15th, tax day, is going to be the truly big day for these events which are being organized in cities all across the USA. If you want to know more about them, I would suggest going to Glenn Beck’s site on FOXNEWS as he is very interested in these events and plans to be at the one at The Alamo in Texas that day. Today, Rush Limbaugh told a caller about these Tea Parties and said that they are “huge”, “catching on” and getting SO big that some cities are trying to figure out what to do. Read the Drudge Report online, listen to Dick Morris on FOXNEWS and subscribe to his free online newsletter (I think he is the smartest man in politics in terms of analysis and understanding of it, based on years of involvement). Listen to Rush who is not just entertaining but courteous to all his callers and incredibly effective at making sense of what appears to be going on vs. what really is going on. I have been listening since 1993 and try never to miss him. He kept me sane and balanced during the Clinton years and he is keeping me sane now. If you can connect, mentally, with sensible and knowledgeable conservatives and be reassured that there really is a resurgence from our side, you will feel less alone and more hopeful, I think. I know I do. And, whatever you do, avoid the mainstream media in every form as they do one thing well: they lie. The 2010 midterms will be a landslide and then we will move onward to 1/20/2012 when we throw Obama O U T forever. Best, Susan

A claim that you work to better your own family’s position and no one else’s rings hollow. You are here broadcasting your views as a result of social, industrial and financial collaboration. You rely on all of those socialist constructs unless you are a subsistence hermit. You squirrel away the money you’ve earned that’s additional to your immediate needs in the hope that later in your life, you’ll be able to take it a little easier and the money will let you obtain the goods and services that you need, without you having to go out and perform an immediate service. Good so far. Then capitalism lends and borrows according to it’s perceived needs (sounds like Ayn Rand), and sticks it’s hand in the social cookie jar because it sees itself as the ideology most fit to survive. It erodes most everything you’ve worked for and what you thought you’d saved. Ultimately, there’s no difference between that outcome, and a fiscally irresponsible government who’ve spent beyond their (and your) means, except that more people are happy in the latter scenario. Good luck trying to get outside that circle.
Only pragmatic government can be demonstrated to work. Ideology-based efforts will fail, because adherents are simply trying to build their own little utopia in the expectation that others will love it too, even while they’re using others’ resources to their own ends.

Murray, capitalism is the only system that provides incentive. Why did the Soviet Union and the People’s Republic of China give up on pure Marxism ? Communists are lazy, and the only way they get things done is by pointing a gun at a workers head. Without profit, you remove the incentive to work, study, discover, think, write, play etc…
Socialism is watered down communism. Higher income taxes go towards social programs etc… The only problem is that governments are not efficient in delivering public social programs, and a lot of times tax dollars disappear through corruption.

I’m from Ottawa, Canada, and I find your conversation on the topic of healthcare very interesting. I keep hearing the word socialism thrown around as if Obama is going to turn America into a replica of Cuba or communist Russia.
Here in Canada we have universal healthcare which means most of our healthcare system is free upon use and is publicly funded. Everything from child birth, to emergency surgeries, to physical rehabilitation is all covered.
This is a form of ‘socialism’. It is the government providing a service equally to all citizens. Our Universal Healthcare system does not make anyone less independent… It simply gives quality healthcare to everyone regardless of wealth.

The Universal Healthcare system that OBAMA proposed when he was elected is not anywhere near being “universal” and would definitely not turn the USA into a welfare state as some of you have suggested.
